What You Should Have on Your New Years Resolution

5 Things to add to your resolution

What You Should Have on Your New Years Resolution

1. Self Love

In 2016 We've seen too many people claim to be in love without even loving themselves. In order to decimate all of the negativity in our lives we need to transform our attitudes about ourselves. Glo-up Spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. Self-Love is not just loving ya physical form.

We transform spiritually when we're able to find peace. This may mean to stop acting petty and forgive your friend for stealing your crayon in the first grade or to stop overwhelming yourself with activities you know youll never find time for.

Mentally glowing means changing your attitude. When we're able to look at life with a half-empty perception, it may get easier for us because it could always be worse.

It's loving your emotions and embracing them when the times needed and to express them. We repress emotions too often thinking it's cool but really we're training ourselves to be numb. The reason we live is because we feel. Being numb is like being a zombie. Avoid that.

2. Incorporating more vegetables

Hear Me out, I love a good piece of chicken. But have you ever considered the impact of a single piece of chicken? First we coop them up in repulsive living conditions, then give them hormones so they grow faster than their organs can accommodate to and after, manufacture them using fossil fuels as well as pile up their excretions to move to bodies of water/land. The amount of carbon emitted by factory farms is atrocious but imagine if we just ate more vegetables? We could decrease all of our carbon footprints for the new year resulting in helping the world and inevitably your body inevitably. Avoiding additional hormones and economically protesting the meat industry sounds pretty nice to me.

3. Trying something new

I'm tired of hearing that dreams are just dreams. I've never been a person to settle and neither should you. Publish that poetry book with your thoughts on racism and haiku's on Kim Kardashian's butt. Drop that mixtape with music discussing why candy corn tastes disgusting. So what if you're 170 pounds?! Apply for that modelling job! Take up photography and post it everywhere. You wanna be a professional Kung fu fighter? Do it. 2017 is what you make it so I want you to be brave and make this year a world of opportunities.

4. Educate

A lot of 2016 has been filled with ignorance and acknowledging it. We also have to remember in order to make change we have to be willing to point out ignorance and make suggestions on how to change it, not just scold. See a child can be yelled at for what it did but just yelling and not explaining doesn't do much. Be open to people and their opinions but have a willingness to educate others and yaself.

5. Appreciate More

We are constantly scrolling through Instagram hoping one day to be just like the Instagram models. We want the nice haircut, the cute thigh-highs, the nice mansion house near the crystal blue water on an island, the fancy schmancy food we can't even pronounce but we gotta start to appreciate ourselves more. It shouldn't take Thanksgiving to realize our values.

Evaluate the people/your environment/your activities in your life and if they're beneficial for you.

Look at your surroundings and thank the universe to be alive cuz some people didn't get that privilege this year. Thank the universe for your house, your phone and your friends and family that have been there with you since the beginning. It's worth it. You're allowed to pat yourself on the back about your accomplishments as well. You've achieved more than you think. When you got up this morning, that was something to pat ya self on the back about. When you did your homework the other night, you deserved to hug yoself for that. Appreciate every aspect of this life for this year and the year coming because you can only build from here.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
