5 Struggles That Only Makeup Lovers Will Understand

So many struggles though.

Makeup may be my favorite thing in the world. It’s a great form of self expression, plus it helps me feel my best. However, when you’re a makeup lover like me, it comes with many hardships. This is just a small list of things that only makeup lovers will understand

1. So much makeup, so little money

There’s so many makeup products that we want, like highlighters, lip liners, bronzers, eye shadow palettes and the list goes on. However, the best brands basically make your wallet cry out in pain. There’s few things that I want more than the Beverly Hills Anastasia Glow Kit, but it’s $45 and I’m a broke college student. The Naked 3 Eye Shadow Palette from Urban Decay, one of the best palettes around is $54 and basically my best possession. Makeup is SO expensive, but it’s so worth it.

2. Eye liner troubles

This has caused me to give up putting on eye liner by myself all together. Winged eye liner looks great, but getting the two wings to match, is stressful. One wrong move, and you have to redo everything, including your perfectly blended smoky eye look. However, it makes your entire life look put together. I don’t understand how, but it does. Plus, if you get your eye liner right in the morning, you’re bound to have the best day. It sets a positive mood.

3. New Mascara

It seems like makeup companies come out with new mascara every single day (especially Maybelline). We all know that the slightly smaller wand isn’t going to make a massive difference, yet we still need to get it, causing half of your makeup products to be mascara. I have way too much, even though I’ve had the same favorite mascara for 2 years now (Shout out to Maybelline Rocket Volume Express). It’s like an addiction. I’m a mascara hoarder, no shame.

4. Beauty Guru Goals

One of the biggest communities on YouTube is the beauty community. Beauty Guru’s are basically people that seem to have an endless supply of makeup, and often teach you how to achieve a certain look. If I had to guess, I’d say I’m probably subscribed to around 30 beauty guru’s. My personal favorite is Rachel Levin. All of these people have incredible makeup skills, and make you want to live their lives, that include a makeup collection three times the size of yours.

5. "You shouldn't wear makeup. It hides your face"

If I got a dollar every time I heard some variation of this line, I’d have enough money to buy every Kylie Jenner Lip Kit. I don’t wear makeup to impress anyone, or hide my insecurities. I wear it because I like it and it makes me feel good. I get to draw attention to my favorite features, and help the things I’m not so crazy about. It’s not a bad thing to want to wear mascara to bring out my eyes, or contour because I have a really round face. I’d appreciate it if you could stop telling me to not wear makeup, and start appreciating my eye shadow skills, thanks.

To all my fellow makeup lovers, I understand you, and I stand with you. Wear you winged liner with pride.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
