Some of us are go-getters, doing assignments on time, staying organized, and leading the pack in a group project. While it must be nice to have your act together, the rest of us are procrastinators- pulling all nighters the evening before a paper is due or being so overwhelmed with work that you just sit there and do nothing. For those of you who can relate or for those who find us procrastinators a mystery, heres a list of the 5 stages that a procrastinator goes through once they have been given an assignment.
1. Being assigned the project, paper, or what-have-you.
Once a procrastinator gets an assignment and figures out the due date, they have a sense of relief. "Due in two weeks? That's nothing!" During this stage, a procrastinator will go about his or her daily life, as if a grade-changing assignment as not been given to them.
2. The "week before the assignment is due" period.
To the procrastinator, having still a whole week left to do a project or write a paper makes the due date seem light years away. In this stage, the assignment might cross a procrastinators mind once or twice, but nothing will come of that. When a Thursday night brings the question of watching a Disney Channel movie marathon or kick-starting that project, a procrastinator won't think twice before turning on a Disney Channel Original.
3. 2 or 3 days before the due date.
This period might be a little different depending on the level of procrastination that the student has reached in his or her lifetime. While some beginner procrastinators could choose this time frame to create a word document and type in the header, or possibly spend 5 minutes planning out his or her project, more serious and experienced procrastinators will deny any sort of responsibility towards the assignment.
4. Night before the assignment is due.
This is the time for the procrastinator to shine. The night before an assignment for a procrastinator is as much of a miracle as Santa Claus reaching all of the houses before Christmas morning. It might take the procrastinator all night or the lucky ones might get a few hours of sleep, but either way, an entire project, presentation, or paper from start to finish will get done before sunrise. It might be painful, they might cry, but this procrastinator will get it done.
5. Day that the assignment is due.
A procrastinator will hand in his or her assignment with pride and dignity.
