We've all seen at least one sports competition in our life, whether because we wanted to or because we were dragged there. Now, for a majority of us these were fairly standard sporting events, a football game for your brother, a basketball game for your sister, a volleyball match for your cousin. Whatever it was, you weren't the only person there; there were other people doing exactly the same thing you were at that very moment or at least at some point that week. But then there are some people who go to sporting events which are not what people would consider normal sports. Here are five sporting events that you probably didn't realize were even a thing.
1. Bed Racing
The competitors in Bed Racing are a team of runners and a rester. The bed itself must have four wheels, and it also be able to float (what?). They go up and down hills, rush across flat plains and, while not in every race, a majority of the time teams cross a river!
2. Chess Boxing
Chess Boxing is, as the name sounds, the combination of chess and boxing. The Competitors within this sport compete in alternating rounds of chess and boxing. This sport is particularly popular in Germany, Great Britain, India and Russia.
3. Pillow Fight League
First rule of Pillow Fight League, don't talk about Pillow Fight League. Actually, that is the opposite of what to do in Pillow Fight League. This event based in Toronto, is actually a way to centre public pillow fights. Sounds fun!
4. Yak Racing
Held at traditional festivals in Tibet, Northern Pakistan and Mongolia, it's said to be one of the most popular and entertaining parts of the horse festivals where they are held –– Interesting!
5. Squirrel Fishing
My favorite, I think, of all these usual sports that I have found, squirrel fishing is the practice of attempting to catch a squirrel using a nut, most likely a peanut, tied to a string and then attempting to lift them into the air! Wow, how entertaining would that be!
