Competitive, outgoing, and ambitious -- that’s who we are. But, when stressed, we can be impatient, perfectionist, and anxious. We drown ourselves in work. We bite our nails. We die a little bit on the inside when we have to wait in long lines.
Sometimes, we Type A people need to relax. We let the stress go to our heads, and our conscientiousness can become our asset and weakness. I, like my fellow Type A’s, just want a short break from reality. Here is a selection of songs that may do the trick.
1. FRENSHIP and Emily Warren, “Capsize”
FRENSHIP, a production duo based in LA, recently teamed up with songwriter Emily Warren for this one. “Capsize” has been rising in the charts lately, but if you’re into anything that gives off a tropical vibe, definitely check this one out.
2. ODESZA and Madelyn Grant, “Sun Models”
Sure, it’s winter, but that doesn’t stop “Sun Models” from transporting us to beachy bliss. I’ve always loved “Say My Name,” but when it comes to picking a favorite song by ODESZA, this one would probably be at a close second.
3. Feist, “How Come You Never Go There”
Bruising, bluesy ballads aren’t exactly the types of songs to play at a party, but if you want something slow and calming to rest your hyper-stressed mind, Feist always delivers. Jazzy and soulful, “How Come You Never Go There” will make you drop whatever you’re doing to sit down on the couch with a blanket and a cup of tea watching the rain fall on your window.
4. Yiruma, “River Flows In You”
If you’re into contemporary classical music, you’ve most likely heard of Yiruma, South Korean pianist who will always send chills down your spine. “River Flows In You” will invoke and conjure up all the emotions in you; you’ll simultaneously cry tears of pain and joy.
5. Shawn Mendes, “Life of the Party”
“Life of the Party” is probably the most raw, emotional song on his album, and it evokes the most important lesson that all Type A’s like myself need to learn. We can’t afford to be so worried and anxious at all times. Don’t be afraid to take risks and to believe in yourself once in a while.
