Maybe it’s 2 a.m. and you’re nowhere near finished with your chemistry homework. Maybe you’ve been reading "The Iliad" for two hours straight, and you just want to take a break. Or maybe you’re cramming for tomorrow’s math test… you know, the one that you’ve known about for two months, but didn’t bother studying for until today. Either way, there’s always a way to make school more bearable: Music!
Below are some suggestions that will make your time in the library more lit than the frat party down the street:
1. The Weeknd, “Loft Music”
“Loft Music” isn’t just the perfect kind of loft music. It’s the best song to jam to with the volume up while lying in bed and taking a small nap. So, if you have piles of homework left, just put “Loft Music” on repeat and keep on going.
2. Ed Sheeran, “Nina”
“Nina” is great for when you and bae love each other but just need to take a little break. Yet, you can also listen to “Nina” when sightseeing and roaming the city… Or, when you need a little pick-me-up after not getting the grade you wanted on your midterm or essay.
3. Fiona Apple, “Across The Universe” (cover of The Beatles)
The Beatles have many faces, from their happy, fast-paced “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” to the soulful, passionate “Let It Be.” In “Across The Universe,” they don a more pensive, intellectual aura, one which Fiona Apple emulates in her cover… Perfect for that complex, mind-boggling English essay.
4. Halsey, “Ghost”
“Ghost,” an early Halsey signature, is a haunting melody of a relationship gone wrong, coupled with vivid imagery. But, it’s slow and soothing enough to help you power through your assignments -- that is, if you don’t cry at how beautiful Halsey’s voice is.
5. Sia, “Breathe Me”
Sia, known for her gifted songwriting skills, has had quite a bit of success with “Chandelier and “Elastic Heart” -- both of which don a haunting tone musically and lyrically. But, these two songs cannot and will not compare to “Breathe Me,” one of earliest songs. A great pick for those anxiety-inducing exam jams.
