There's always the question of whether going to a big college is better than going to a small college and vice versa. There are benefits and drawbacks to both, however there is one this that is true--there really are some things that you can do at small colleges that you simply cannot if you go to a big college or university.

1. Leave you stuff wherever.

At a small college, especially if you college is in a small town, you never think twice about leaving your stuff for a while. I have left my backpack with all my belongings in the coffee shop on one side of campus, walked all the way to the other side of campus and back and not blinked an eye. Everyone just has a mutual understanding of marking your spot with your stuff that it doesn't phase anyone.

2. Text your professors.

At a small college, you generally have the same three or four professors for all your classes in your major. And given the small class sizes, they get to know you pretty well and trust you. Thus, a lot of professors are comfortable with giving their number to their classes and having them text or call them when they are having problems.

3. Leave for class five minutes before it starts.

Most private small colleges require students to live on campus for all four years. Thus, generally everyone is close to their classes. This is especially true because most small colleges have small campuses as well, making it easy to sleep until 7:45am for your 8:00am class because you can leave at 7:55am and still make it there in time.

4. Be involved in literally everything.

When there's not that many people going to a college, yet there are a lot of leadership positions and clubs to be involved in, you will get pulled into being involved in everything on campus. At a small college, you could be you sorority president, a part of student government, on the volleyball team and a part of an honor society all at the same time because hey why not?

5. Sleep wherever.

Because everyone knows each other or at least knows of each other, it is easy to feel like campus is just an extension of your dorm room or apartment because you simply feel at home. Thus, if you need to catch 15 minutes of zzz's then why not just do it on the comfy couch in the library? It feels like home anyway.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
