I think it's fair to say that nearly every girl is her most confident when she looks and feels her best. Which, for some of us, is achieved by completing our typical makeup routine, and wearing our favorite outfit. Most of us have looked up makeup tutorials on YouTube (even if we refuse to admit that sometimes), and we ask ourselves, are the expensive products that these tutorial women use actually worth it? I know spending almost twice the price on name brand makeup may be hard to swallow, after all, getting your entire makeup collection for $40 from a drugstore is a hard habit to shake. But the truth is that there are some products that are most definitely worth the extra cash, and after using them you will not look at makeup the same. I mean, everyone knows that once you go Sephora, Ulta or Mac, you never go back.
If walking in to Sephora gives you anxiety because of all the different makeup options (how can anyone actually know what they're looking for in that place??), and you're still buying drugstore everything when it comes to makeup, then hopefully this list will help you out a little bit. These are five basic makeup products that are worth the splurge at Sephora, and yes, these are all based on personal experience.
1. Too Faced - Better Than Sex Mascara ($23)
This is the god of all mascaras, so don't let the name scare you off. The thick brush gets your eyelashes thick and voluminous, while the mascara formula itself lengthens even the shortest of lashes. I have straight, short eyelashes, and when I'm wearing this mascara I've been asked if I'm wearing fake eyelashes. So, for all eyelash lovers out there, you need this.
2. Urban Decay - Naked2 Eye Palette ($54)
While the price may seem way too steep, it's important to remember how long this eyeshadow will last. You will have this for at least a year, probably even longer, and the pigment will still be as smooth and glamorous as it was when you first bought it. There are four different Naked palettes, but I like the Naked2 the best. The warm, gold colors flatter every eye color, and blend with each other flawlessly -- and yes, this is very important.
3. Anastasia Beverly Hills - Brow Wiz ($21)
The best part about this product is that it's an eyebrow filler more than a pencil. I'm sure most of you have had that "Oh, crap" moment when you accidentally over tweeze your brows, and this pencil will always come to your rescue. It fills the spaces in your brows to make your eyebrows look naturally full, and naturally perfect.
4. Sephora Collection - Perfection Mist Airbrush Collection ($28)
This is a type of foundation that most girls have probably never even thought about: it's a spray-on foundation. This foundation is not only super easy to use, you literally just spray it on to your face, but it has great coverage that makes your skin look flawless. Even though it's probably a lot different from the foundation you're currently using I promise you will be happy with this purchase.
5. Sephora Collection - Highlight Lowlight Face Contour Duo ($20)
If you've always wanted to try contouring, but have no idea how this is the perfect place to start. . This contour stick will define and flatter your cheekbones, nose, and jawline, while also looking extremely natural. All you need is a beauty blender (which you can buy from any drugstore) and you're set to looking fabulous. Also, you can ask any Sephora employee with help and they'll show you exactly where to apply the highlighter and lowlighter to flatter your face shape, so you won't be clueless on how to use it.
