Tons of people want a good book to curl up with next to a fireplace and feel all warm and cozy. Forget that. I want a book that makes my heart pound and my adrenaline rush. I want to feel like I'm being thrown into epic battles against monsters and aliens. That's what Sci-fi and Fantasy is all about and here are five of the best books in the two genres.

1. "The Kingkiller Chronicle Series" - Patrick Rothfuss

So begins the tale of Kvothe—from his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. - Patrick Rothfuss

I have to say that I'm starting out with my favorite series on this entire list, and yes, I know that I cheated by listing a series and not a book. "The Kingkiller Chronicle" is a mashup of traditional and modern fantasy but has remarkable characters and storytelling complete with hubris, flaws, and badass artistry. The third book is unreleased and has no release date, but some people can't contain their excitement.

2. "Ender's Game" - Orson Scott Card

"Andrew 'Ender' Wiggin thinks he is playing computer simulated war games; he is, in fact, engaged in something far more desperate."

Yes, this is the science fiction book you probably read back in grade school a decade ago. Trust me, it still holds up despite the questionable movie they released in 2013. The book is amazing speculative making you ask questions every step of the way. There are so many amazing science fiction concepts that emerge from this book, you'll wonder how they're not possible.

3. "The Saga Series" - Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

"Two lovers from long-warring extraterrestrial races, Alana and Marko, fleeing authorities from both sides of a galactic war as they struggle to care for their newborn daughter, Hazel." - Brian K. Vaughan

I know, I know, it's another series and a comic book of all things. I honestly can't say enough good things about this series. Its art is beautiful and the story is epic and moving. Family, love, war, sex, all taken for a galactic spin in a massive universe filled with some of the most outrageously wonderful beings.

4. "Ready Player One" - Earnest Cline

" In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. " - Earnest Cline

Video games are an obsession for millions. Add some dystopian world and the eccentric imagination of every gamer in the world and you get this book. It's an amazing combination of every bit of entertainment out there wrapped into one of the most entertaining books been released in the last decade.

5. "The Mistborn Series" - Brandon Sanderson

"In a world where ash falls from the sky, and mist dominates the night, an evil cloaks the land and stifles all life. The future of the empire rests on the shoulders of a troublemaker and his young apprentice." - Good Reads

Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite authors of all time. He has a mastery of writing action and it fits so well in the world he creates. The book is unique with beautiful imagery and so many fantasy elements that only Sanderson could come up with. If you're a fan of badass fight scenes with unique magic, this series is perfect.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
