Industrial Engineering is the best. Being a double major and having IE as one of them, it really feels like one of the best majors out there. This is especially true at Tech It's one of the most distinct degrees available here, and here're five reasons how you know it.
1. Haters gonna hate.
At Tech, every major's abbreviation apparently stands for something. BME is business major eventually, ME is maybe an engineer, everyone Tech have their own dash of elitism. Yet with Industrial, there is a special meaning behind IE that other engineering students just love to call it. "Imaginary Engineering". I can see the joke behind it. We don't have to take a lot of the common struggle bus classes like Thermo or Fluids. But you know what we have to take? IE classes, which are the epitome of black magic statistics. You never really know what you're doing, but you just sort of math it out and cry all the way to the bank.
2. Your pockets are so heavy
Everyone coming out of Tech is going to be making some paper. But IE's end up buried in it when they're not even out of Tech yet. It's a struggle we all have to bear.
3. Employment game ridiculous
Coming straight from the school itself, 98.7% of seniors* have a full-time offer averaging $68,700 starting salary. That's one of the highest employment rates in the school. Even in school, the struggle for internships is one of the few that's never felt. Every IE in my fraternity has or has had either an internship or co-op whenever they wanted one. One brother alone has worked for GE, Intel, and Volvo, and is only a third year.
4. Your major building doesn't actually exist
Yeah, there's the IE building next to the Instructional Center, but every class I've seen or had in IE is in the Instructional Center. What's even the point of the IE building if I've only been in there once to change my major?
5. You're still one of the best
No matter what major you are, you're at Tech, and not at the-school-that-shall-not-be-named, which is the ultimate build up to that Tech superiority complex. Also, the whole Ga Tech IsYE being the number one program for the last 21 years*. But whatever. Go DWAGS!
