5 Reasons Why Your Roommates Will Become Your Bridesmaids
Sydney Rodie

One of the most terrifying things about going into your freshman year of college is the uncertainty of who your roommates will be. In most cases it is randomized by the university and you do not have the slightest clue as to how they do it. Is it by number? Age in relation to your birth month? Do they pull random names out of a hat? What if they are nothing like you and it just does not work? You have to live with these people for the next nine months and it would be the worst series of events if you all ended up not getting along. Luckily in my case and for many others, move in day is the moment you will find some of your best friends.

1. They know exactly what mood you’re in before you even tell them.

You would think they had a sixth sense or something or even a hidden camera placed around campus because as soon as you walk through that door, they are ready for what you are about to throw at them. Happy? Time to blast music and sing! Sad? Tissues, a hug and your favorite comfort food. Angry? Maybe to proceed towards the angry beast with caution. On your wedding day, the most exciting, but most stressful days of your life is when this perk will absolutely be in everyone’s favor. Don’t make the bride cry, her makeup was just done!

2. They understand your taste for everything.

She doesn’t like that color, she cannot rock bows, she will never want to wear that, and her hair cannot be styled a certain way. Your roommates are there every day to give you the yes or no on your outfit and even on some occasions, they are giving you the outfit from their side of the room. When it comes to that time where you find yourself in a bridal shop searching for that perfect gown, you will look to your side and see them repeating the exact same process they did in college.

3. You know you can always count on them.

Nothing is worse than being bailed on. Your roommates are and will be one of the most consistent people in your life and this is essential during your next four years. Who is going to calm you down when you're having a breakdown? Your roommates. Who is going to grab you a coffee before class because they know you haven’t slept? Your roommates. Who is going to be there when you don’t want to eat by yourself in the dining hall? Your roommates, even though they just ate or had to be in class in 10 minutes. Who is going to be there during the whole process of your wedding planning? Your roommates.

4. They push you to do things you don’t feel like doing or what you feel like you can’t do.

If there is anyone who keeps you in line, it is your roommates. Feel like skipping class? Prepare to receive the mom lecture on how irresponsible that is and that you should want to prepare for your future. Want to sleep instead of study for that big exam they know about? Forget it, the lights will remain on and they will be in your space pushing you to do it because they know you will thank them later. Your roommates are your biggest supporters and will never allow you to settle for less than what they know you are capable of. So call that wedding planner, rent the venue and make the invitations!

5. They would never allow you to marry someone who did not help you grow.

Your roommates and your best friends will be there for everything. The good days, the bad and even the ugly. They know you better than you know yourself and that means they know who your soul mate is or isn’t. They have always been one to tell your straight up how they feel and this will carry over into when you start dating. Odds are, from the mention of their name they have already stalked their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. They will know where they live, the girls they have dated, their parent’s names and their favorite restaurant. You will never have to rely on eHarmony or Tinder for your match made in heaven because believe it or not, they have already created the image of your perfect person. So yes he may be attractive and funny, but if he doesn’t meet the criteria, than you can forget it. And in the chaos of your engagement and wedding, they are already eyeing which of the groomsman they called dibs on.

So to my person out there wanting to put a ring on it, I hope you can pass the high standards my best friends have set for you. They are some of the most caring, selfless and incredible human beings I have ever met and they expect you to be the same.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
