Starting sophomore year, a lot of people are excited for one thing: actually living with people that they absolutely love. I know that when I walked into my apartment the first day of sophomore year I was so overwhelmed with love for my roommates and it hadn't even been a day yet. We had cute decorations and pictures and everything was so organized and perfect. But how they decorated the apartment isn't the only reason why they are the greatest
1. You always have a friend.
Yes, sometimes you're like, "OMG I JUST WANT SOME ALONE TIME," but your roommates can truly save your life. After coming home from a rough day last week, mine bombarded me with hugs and shoved large amounts of ice cream in my face. I didn't even say anything about my day, they just knew it sucked, and for that I'll forever be grateful.
2. Clothes. Clothes. Clothes.
I can't even tell you how many times I have worn something that belonged to on of my roommates. Whether it was a romper, a Hawaiian shirt, or Beyonce styled earrings, I've worn it all. And that's the beauty of having roommates, regardless of your size, you can always find something to wear. Only requirement? Making sure you give clothing cred to your roomie, of course!
3. There's teamwork everywhere.
I can't cook to save my life. Wait, I take that back. I make a mean bowl of cereal and nice piece of toast if I do say so myself. Anyways, one day I was doing homework in my room and one of my roomates walked up to me and set down a plate with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, green beans, and a towering glass of milk (major shoutout to Emmy). She said, "Hey, remember when you unloaded the dishes for me that one time? Here's a thank you." And BOOM. Just like that she walked away all casual even though she just made me a gourmet meal. Teamwork is DA BOMB.
4. They only make you better.
They encourage you to be the best that you can be. They tell you to go study for your exam. They tell you to eat healthier. They tell you to go do laundry. Your roomies help you become a better person and push until you get there.
5. They just love you.
Sometimes I feel like I am living with three moms because they always want to make sure I'm okay. And I love them for that. I was sick two weeks ago and my roommate, Lindsey, who deserves a serious shoutout here, closed the screen of my computer, put all my books in my backpack, and told me to go to bed because I need at least eight hours of sleep to help get me better. That right there is love and if it's not, well then I don't know what is.
So go home and hug your roommates, no matter what happened earlier that day. At the end of it all, they love you like a mother loves her newborn child and would do basically anything for you.
