Whether you always wanted to have one or not, your big brother is someone that you're stuck with. Here are just a few of the reasons that we absolutely love them and the blessings they bring into our lives!
1. There is always someone you can go to for advice without being judged.
My brother is four years older than me, so he has more life experiences under his belt than I do. Growing up, and even now, if I ever find myself in a sticky situation, or I need advice and don't want to go to my parents, he is always there. He never judged me for anything I did or needed help with, but instead loved me and pushed me in the right direction.
2. You can never really mess up in your parent’s eyes because of him.
Your big brother was the one that did everything first - he started school first, he got into fights first, he got into car accidents first, he messed up first. Compared to him, nothing you do would ever be that bad to your parents because he already did it first. They’ll probably be used to it by the time you get around to making your fair share of mistakes. So, shout out to our big brothers for paving a nice road for us!
3. You’ll always have a personal bodyguard.
If you’re like me, your big brother has been ready and willing to protect you from the moment you were born. If you fell and scraped your knee, he helped you get help (maybe after laughing at you a bit). If your friends in middle school were being mean girls, he was there to help you out. If your ex-boyfriend broke your heart, he was ready to drive to his house and give him a piece of his mind. Your big brother will always be there to protect you, even if you don’t want it.
4. He makes you have thick skin.
When I was little, my dad always told me that I needed thicker skin. I would literally cry at the drop of a hat, if I spilled milk, or broke something. Having a big brother helps you learn to be a strong, independent person. Although my brother and I always make fun of each other, it helped me learn that words are nothing more than words and that they can’t hurt me. He also helped me learn my self-worth.
5. You have a best friend for life! (Seriously.)
Your brother is your sibling which means you can never get rid of each other. I’m lucky enough that my brother and I are basically the same people. If I ever need someone to get ice cream with after dinner when all my friends are busy, he’s there. If I ever wanted to go on some random adventure, he would be willing. Your big brother is your best friend that takes you under his wing and helps you experience things you wouldn’t have if it weren’t for him.
