As much as we would like to believe that we could one day be totally independent from our parents, we know that deep down, we will always count on them for more things than we like to admit. Having raised us, our parents have some things up their sleeves that come in handy when we come crawling back to them.
1. Knowledge
What do you do when you can't remember how long chicken has to be cooked? What about when your washer keeps making that horrifying noise when it's ending the cycle? You call mom and dad. After years of living with you (and dealing with your incredible talent of breaking things,) your parents know what to do in every emergency no matter what. Even when it seems like the impossible, they will make it happen.
2. Wisdom
After being around for a few years, experience tends to give some the upper hand. When you were younger, you never listened to your parents because you believed you were always right. But, as we get older, we've come to realize that our parents know what they're talking about, and we willingly seek their advice. Whether it be about a friendship falling out or a new job you've applied for, mom and dad always give you their best wisdom on the subject. With your best interest in mind, they'll help you work through anything.
3. Money
Okay, I just had to state the obvious. What good are your parents if they don't throw you a little cash here and there? Hanging out with your parents after moving out is kind of like visiting your grandparents when you're little: they'll toss you a crisp $10 bill just for being you. Eventually it all adds up and you get to spend it however you please. Thanks for feeding my coffee addiction, mom and dad.
4. Honesty
Like I said earlier, our parents always have our best interest in mind. This means that when that new shirt you thought was perfect for you is actually not the most flattering piece of clothing, they're going to tell you. But more importantly, they'll feel free to talk to you when they feel as if you're not going down the right path or you're not treating yourself as well as you deserve. Your open relationship makes for great trust, allowing you to come to them with anything. The best part about being honest with your parents is knowing they'll always love and accept you.
5. Unconditional Love
No one will ever be as proud of you as your parents are. Your parents are your biggest fans and your forever friends. Having a support system in your life is so important, and it's nice knowing that you'll always have at least two people to count on in this crazy life. We may not always recognize the people we've been blessed with, who brought us into the world, but they'll continue to love us anyway. And because of this incredible bond we have with our parents, we'll somehow never be able to shake them. But deep down, we'll love every second of it.
