5 Reasons Why You Should Be Active on Campus

Everyone says that high school is one of the best times of your life, but I disagree. Some people don't find their place in high school, and I was one of those. Fortunately, that all changed when I got to college. At first, I didn't know where I belonged. This changed, though, when I actually got involved on campus. Campus life has so much to offer. Whether it's Greek life, sports, or even a live action role playing club, anyone can find a place where they belong.

These are five reasons why you should be active on campus:

1. Free Stuff.

Who doesn't love free stuff? One of the organizations on campus is always giving away something. You can find free pens, cups, sunglasses, etc. My favorite free items are food and t-shirts. As a broke college student I can never have too much food. Not to mention shirts come in handy when you want to have some school spirit.

2. You can make connections.

Knowing people on campus helps you in the long run. Meeting people can help you with jobs, scholarships, and letters of recommendations. It is a good idea to get to know people of high authority on campus. You never know what opportunity may pop up thanks to the help of someone you met.

3. Gives you something to do.

If you are ever bored with your life, go on campus. When I say there is always something to do, I mean it. Even if there is not a specific event, you will always see something interesting going on. If you don't want to talk to people, don't worry, there's a gym or you can just walk around campus and take in the beautiful scenery

4. Helps with resumes.

Clubs. clubs.clubs. Join all the clubs you can because they look amazing on resumes. Jobs are always wondering what you did and how you can qualify to fit their needs. They can get a good idea of your commitment if they see that you were active in clubs throughout college. No matter what your interest is you can always find a club perfect for you.

5. Friendship.

One of the best reasons why you should be active on campus is friendships. You meet so many people. You see so many new faces everyday. The best part is, though, some of those faces end becoming really good friends that you probably would have never met unless you went to campus. That's how I made my friends, and I am beyond grateful.

Campus life is honestly the best. Don't miss out the great opportunities because of fear, anxiety, or just not wanting to!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
