The holiday season is one of the most magical times of the year. Carolers are caroling, Christmas lights are going up, home cooked food is made is mass amounts and family is together too. Friends come for holiday parties and other social events. The holidays are a time of celebration, but also a time of appreciating what you have. Here are some reasons to be thankful this holiday season.
1. Be thankful for family.
Family is one of the most important things in a person’s life. Your family is always there for you, and during the holiday season, they have done so much. Some families will do without presents or necessities for themselves just to give their children a good holiday. Some people cannot afford to be with their families, and some people do not even have families. Always be grateful for the people in your life. You never know what tomorrow holds.
2. Be thankful for food.
Okay, not only is it amazing to come home to home-cooked food since I am a college student, but it is also wonderful to always come home to mom’s cooking (there’s nothing else like it, am I right). Always be thankful for your families cooking, or just cooking during the holidays because it’s always amazing. Also, be thankful for having food. Many people go without food during the winter because of the lack of recourses available. A good thing to do during the holiday season is to donate to your local food bank!
3. Be thankful for your friends.
I know I’m not just speaking for myself, but the friends I have made in college have turned into family. We have been through good times, bad times, stressful times (it’s college, duh) and adventurous times. What else are friends for? Don’t forget them this holiday season, they’re always going to be there for you too.
4. Be thankful for your significant other.
The holiday season is also a season of romance, and other fun dates that happen spontaneously. Christmas lights are aglow, and the mood is set for a romantic evening beneath hundreds of electric stars. What else would a person want? Remember to give thanks to the ones you love; I can speak for myself when I say I am so grateful for the things my boyfriend does for me (not to brag), and I know he works hard to make me happy. Whatever the case may be with your relationship, remember to appreciate them, because they’re not like family; they have a choice to be around or not!
5. Be thankful for the break from school.
I honestly think this one speaks for itself.
Remember, the holidays are a time of giving and thanking our loved ones for being with us in our lives. Volunteer, hug a stranger, donate food or money, or give something to a child in need. Help a neighbor out this holiday; our world needs more acts of kindness! Happy Holidays to all!
