Summer is the time for carefree attitudes, music festivals, the beach, lounging around, and catching up on much needed downtime. It’s our reward for a busy and productive school year -- three uninterrupted months of relaxing freedom and bliss. This is our only time where we can truly slow down and take a break, and not worry about rushing around all the time like we do during the school year. Whether you’re taking summer classes, working, or living at home, there are still aspects of summer everyone can enjoy.

1. Sunshine.

The sun shines longer than any other time of the year, meaning that we have longer days to live to the fullest. Make it a point to see the sunrise a few times, and appreciate the fact that we can wake up early for something so peaceful, instead of hurriedly and grumpily waking up for class or work. Summer is associated with bright, sunny days, so be sure not to let these days slip away. We spend too much time indoors, sitting on our electronic devices. Doing this during summer is practically a sin.

2. Vacations.

Summer is the only time of the year where we have uninterrupted time to travel and explore. Having the opportunity to see the world with our families or friends is incredible, and what better time to do it than now? The memories that you make and take back with you are priceless, and the stories that you’ll have once returning to school are worth telling. Take advantage of the free time that summer provides, get out and see some sights.

3. Tan lines.

Bronzed skin is happy skin, and showing off our tan lines like well-earned trophies is one of the perks of summertime. This is the only time of the year when it’s socially acceptable to wear the most minimal amount of clothing possible. As our skin gets darker, our hair gets lighter, and our blissful nature shines through. Treasure the freedom that is associated with this state of being, and try to keep it with you throughout the school year.

4. Fruit.

'Tis the season -- of pineapples, mangos, and watermelon! It is impossible not to gorge yourself with the ample fruits that we’ve been waiting for all year. From smoothies and acai bowls, to simply eating whole fruit, I think we all can agree that it’s not only healthy and delicious, but also one of the most aesthetically pleasing foods. These Instagram-worthy meals are just one of the beautiful gifts that come during summertime.

5. Sleep.

Without classes to wake up to every day of the week, summer is our only opportunity to get the doctor-recommended eight to nine hours of sleep every night. When we’re not exploring the world, or frolicking in the ocean, we’re catching up on our sleep and rejuvenating ourselves from a long, stressful school year. There’s no better way to spend a rainy day than curled up in bed with a good book. We all deserve it!

So, turn off your computer, grab a friend, and go make the most of the sunshine and warm air. Enjoy the sweet, sweet summertime before it’s all over, and we’re thrown back into the busy and slightly chaotic reality of our lives.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
