New Year's Eve is filled with all sorts of emotions: excitement for the new year, stress for fun plans, anticipation for the year ahead. However, NYE is overrated. It brings with it a lot more trouble than it's worth.
1. It's so much $$$!
Regardless of plans, the night of New Year's Eve ends up costing quite a bit. Bars up-charge their all-you-can-drink deals because they know they can. Concerts are a super fun way to ring in the new year, but at a hefty price. Private events jack up prices to make up for the costs of hosting. A dinner and movie date might be your best option if you're looking to celebrate sensibly.
2. Most resolutions are usually pretty artificial.
Get in shape. Learn something new. Volunteer more. Stress less. We've heard it all, and we've all heard that most people give it up six weeks in, yet we still make those ill-fated attempts. How about we all just try and make little, realistic changes. Give someone a second chance. Take five minutes out to call your grandma. Big changes can be accomplished with little steps.
3. Midnight kisses aren't that great.
"Who will I kiss at midnight?" Honestly, why do we care? It shouldn't be a big deal! I, by far, prefer starting the hour by cheers-ing my best friends with a glass of bubbly. New Year's Eve is a time to remember who is important in your life and be thankful enough to spend it with them. If you have a significant other, then kiss them all you want. But if you don't have a special someone, don't fret. Raise your glass and kiss the old year out and the new year in!
4. Crowds.
Need I say more? An overflowing bar is guaranteed. The streets will no doubt be flooded with endless people and Ubers. Concerts are jam packed. Clubs and parties are shoulder to shoulder. Breathing room is out of the question. No one's ideal situation.
5. Outfits are hard.
OK, this isn't that big of a deal, but for the ladies especially, the pressure is on. Ringing in the new year means that your outfit needs to be on fleek. This is the decider of 2016. Will you be fashion forward or will you fall behind? Are you going to set the trends or simply be guided by them? This night begins your new year fashion journey.
