5 Reasons Why I'm Ready To Go Back To College

I'm going back soon and honestly, my summer could have gone by faster.

I start college again soon and I have to say, for me, summer hasn't gone by fast enough. I miss (almost) everything about my University and I can't wait to go back. I'm going into my Sophomore year this year and I'm both excited and scared about what's in store for me. I feel like I've finally gotten the hang of this whole "adulting" thing, thanks to the lessons I learned my first year. Of course, I know that I'm bound to learn even more lessons this year that are both eye-opening and gut wrenching. Personally, I look forward to the lessons that are the equivalent of getting hit in the face. Those are my favorites. There are tons of reasons why I am ready to go back to college, but I've compiled a list of five to make it easier.

1. I Want to Be Busy Again

This isn't to say that I'm not busy. I have a summer job, I write and I do other small things. But I miss that feeling of having a bunch of stuff to do and being able to finish it. I like being busy. Having nothing to do gives me time to think and I do not want to go down that dark rabbit hole. I've had way too much time to think this summer and it's led to days spent in bed questioning my life choices.

2. I Miss the Freedom of Living By Myself (ish)

I love my family, but after having that taste of freedom that was my Freshman year, living back at home is a little frustrating at times. While at college I was able to make my own decisions and people took me seriously. At home, my decisions are scrutinized and berated and suddenly I don't know what's best for myself anymore.

3. I Want to Feel Successful

I want to be able to sit back at the end of the day and say that I did something productive. That doesn't include successfully taking someone's order or cleaning out my desk. I guess what I really want is that feeling of pride when I succeed academically, I want the validation that comes with it.

4. I Miss My Friends

I've come to realize that the friends that you promised to keep in touch with in high school are not necessarily the people you keep in touch with. I've hung out with about three people this whole summer and I've remained in contact with about five friends from high school. So yeah, summer hasn't been as fun socially as I had hoped, and I really miss being able to see my friends from college all the time. I'm living with them this year and I can't wait to experience what it's like living with your best friends.

5. I Miss the Feeling of Having My Dad Visit Me

There's something special about having my dad call me on a Saturday to tell me that he's coming to visit. I understand that not everyone has the luxury of their parents living about twenty minutes away so I treasure his visits. Even though I try to phone him regularly, it's great to see him in person. We always go to the same pizza place down the street from my university and spend hours just talking and catching up. Oftentimes, he's just the help I need in order to figure out how to fix problems or make big decisions. Having him visit me is wonderful and it reminds me that he loves me. Sometimes I need that kind of reminder.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
