Being around family is great, but having no parental guidance allows for experiences.
Those late night food runs, Netflix binges, sleepovers, study sessions. Hanging out with people when you don't have a curfew or somewhere to be just bonds you. Nighttime means no school and nothing to do so there's always fun to be had. There's always a curfew at home and we all know some of the best stories come from those late nights.
Alone time
Living on your own, walking to class on your own, deciding what to do (mostly) on your own. There's never enough alone time at home and at college you can decide just how much time you want to spend with others. Sure, you can't avoid the people in class, but you can go home and relax on your own.
Football Season
Less than 60 days until football season and I'm beyond ready to throw on a cute game day outfit and my cowboy boots and walk to the stadium with my friends. Less than 60 days until we get to yell "WEAGLE WEAGLE, WAR DAMN EAGLE, KICK 'EM IN THE BUTT, BIG BLUE, HEY!" Less than 60 days until we get to sit in front of the biggest jumbotron in college football. Don't act like you don't have a countdown on your phone, too.
Being back with the gang
Friends from home are great but friends from college become your family (especially when you're out of state). The memories you have with them make all the schoolwork worth it and cure your homesickness immediately. They're the one you go to when you need someone to cheer you up, when you're beyond stressed out, when you need some help, or when you need to have fun. I don't know if I'm counting down to see them or see my Auburn Tigers play some football more.
It's starting to feel less like "home away from home" and more like "home."
You picked where you wanted to go to school, where you wanted to live, the friends you wanted to have, the sorority or clubs you wanted to join, and you've found all of your little hangouts. You know every street and love every bit of tradition and history. Sorry, Mom and Dad, but I can't wait to get home.
