My best friend has be pressuring me to watch "Gilmore Girls" because she loves the show and she thought I would love it too. I watched about half of the pilot episode and then hadn't watched it for about three weeks because of finals/papers. Now that it is winter break I have had plenty of time to really invest into the "Gilmore Girls" craze. Well I'm happy to report I am hooked. I love Lorelei and her sarcastic attitude but it is with Rory Gilmore I most relate to. Here's five reason why.
1. She loves to read
I love books. They are my life. It's nice to see a character who shares my same love. Rory is always reading and she is also just nerdy in general. She always makes time to read. She makes it her priority. She lives and breathes books. It is because of Rory that I feel more normal and less like some weird alien. Thanks Rory.
2. She is awkward
Not only is she nerdy but she is just as bad at flirting and talking to people of the opposite sex in general as me. It took her what, at least four episodes to finally start talking like a normal person to Dean where she finally admitted that she liked him. While she is younger than me and now has a boyfriend while I have never been in a relationship, I still feel like me and her are very alike. She is also awkward with people that she is not close too. Like me, she tends to keep to herself unless she is hanging out with Dean or Lane.
3. She's a goody two-shoes
Not only does she take her school work very seriously, but she is an overall goody two-shoes just like me. She gets upset if she gets anything less than an A or an A- and she does not succumb to peer pressure. When Madeline and Louise met some college guys at the Bangles concert they all went to together and were invited by the boys to go to a party they were having, Rory declined and stayed behind. While she's made some bad decisions she is pretty much a goody two-shoes.
4. She can be sarcastic
Not only is she a nerd and a goody two-shoes, but she is also partly sarcastic. While Lorelei is the queen of sarcasm, Rory has her own sense of sarcasm and she uses it sparingly. That's the way I like to use my sarcasm. A good balance of serious and funny.
5. She's a good person
This is only one of many examples of Rory being a good person. Even though Paris wasn't always very nice to Rory and usually was trying to destroy Rory's life, Rory still treated her nicely. When Paris was having a hard time dealing with her parent's divorce, Rory offered to help her through it by being a listening ear if she ever needed. She also is a big emotional support for her mom and is always there for her.
I'm loving this show and I really like Rory. But I've been told by the same friend who pushed me to watch the show that I'm going to hate Rory later on. I'm only on season one and I'm not sure what's going to happen, but as of right now I will identify with Rory until she proves not worthy.
