As soon as September hits, you can feel the anticipation for fall in the air. Everyone’s ready to get out their jeans and stay away from the hot, humid weather. We can’t wait for the football games, bonfires, Halloween, Homecoming, and so much more. But I think fall is about more than just those big events. It’s about all of the small moments that make up those events. It’s about the instances that seem insignificant at the time, but end up making those moments turn into memories that will last forever.
1. Bonfires
We all look forward to the nights where we can comfortably sit around a fire with all of our friends. But I don’t think it’s the bonfire itself that we look forward to. It’s being around all of our friends, laughing while burning marshmallows; listening to the simple crack of the fire and noticing the glow it leaves on all of ourfaces. All of the sudden the sun has gone down and there is no light except for what’s coming from the fire. We leave with the smell of bonfire in our hair and memories of friendship.

3. Football
Everyone is excited at the thought of the very first football game of the season. Whether that’s a Friday night lights game, college, or NFL. While we love the game itself, there’s more to it than that. It’s about standing in the stands on a Friday night, chanting with all of your classmates. It’s about waking up on a Saturday in college, and feeling the excitement in the air before a home game. Or sitting on a couch with your family, eating popcorn while yelling at the T.V. because your favorite NFL team is playing. We love to see our teams win, but more than that, we love the feeling we get before and during these games.
4. Scenery
There’s something about the way leaves change colors in the fall; the reds, oranges, yellows. Walking outside you feel the crunch after stepping on fallen leaves while looking at the sunshine through the trees, giving off an unbelievable hue of orange. We know that soon the leaves will fall and the trees will be bear, but knowing this makes the scenery of fall seem even more astonishing.
5. Thanksgiving
Although Halloween is a great and all, my favorite fall holiday is Thanksgiving. What’s better than stuffing yourself with food while spending time with all of the people you love most? It feels like a magical time-and that’s not just because of all of the amazing food. It’s a holiday that brings your family and friends together. We share thanks for these people in our lives, our homes, our food, etc. What’s better than relaxing with the people we love and sharing thanks for our wonderful, but ordinary lives?
