Every single person is guilty of procrastinating at some point, no matter how organized or on top of things you believe you are. We don't always feel like tending to our responsibilities right when they are given to us. Here are a few reasons why we all procrastinate:
1. You would rather be watching TV
There are so many times when I just find myself binge-watching a show on Netflix when I should be doing literally anything else at that moment. There are times where work just feels like the worst possible thing you could be doing with your time. Or maybe you've fallen so behind on your favorite show that you feel like you deserve this time to blow off work just once.
2. You have too much to do, so you ignore it
We have all felt overwhelmed at times. Sometimes we would love to get all the work that is piling up done, but then we sit and think about how much we have to get done, mentally break down and decide now is not a good time to do it. It's crazy how much work we all have to do sometimes and we once in a while need a little time to ignore our responsibilities until they go away.
3. The expectations for your work are too high
You don't want to disappoint the person that is expecting this work from you to be good. The fact that you have to get something done, and people are expecting a lot from it is stressful in and of itself. You don't want to disappoint anyone and that keeps you from even starting what you need to do because that fear of failure is already placed in your head.
4. You have no idea what you're doing
We've all had those projects or assignments that are just not our thing and we chose to wait until the last minute to do them. We all have those subjects or assignments that don't seem to connect in our brains. It's hard to have motivation to do a project when we don't know what we're doing.
5. You simply don't feel like doing it
There are always going to be those things in life that you simply have no interest in doing. Schoolwork is a main thing that many students procrastinate on because they are forced to do something that does not pique their interests at all.
It happens to everyone, so there's no need to feel ashamed when we do it. It's a part of life that we get past...eventually.
