It's that time of the year again. The semester is almost over. Seasons are changing and the lovely peppermint mocha is back in Starbucks. While fall is an ideal time to cuddle up and take cute pictures, it’s also the time of year where everyone is in desperate need of Thanksgiving Break. There are many reasons this break is one of the most looked forward to in the college community including:
1. Roommates
We all love our roommates. Well at least some of us do. Some of us can’t stand having a roommate, but not matter the relationship with your roommate whether the two of you are best friends or if you can’t stand each other, you’ve been living together for four months now. This is four months of sharing your life with a person who you never thought you’d be this close to (both physically and emotionally). You’ve basically been sharing your life with this person for the past 4 months and you’re 110 percent ready to have some time to yourself where you can trash your room, not wear pants, and shove your face with junk food without anyone judging you.
2. Classes
The past 4 months have been filled with listening to the same 5 teachers talk for hours on end in lecture halls. It’s gotten to the point in the year where all you hear is “blah blah blah” even though in the back of your mind you know this information is important and probably gonna be on the final (reason #3 we all need break). Even if you love every one of your professors, you’re just sick of hearing their voice by Thanksgiving break.
3. Finals
Along with the beauty of the transition between fall in winter come college students’ biggest fear: FINALS. A work that many made into an acronym for: “F**k I Never Actually Learned this Sh*t”. Thanksgiving Break allows for us stressed out college students to have 4 days to “study” before dead week starts (study being code for stress eating without feeling guilty ‘cause it’s the holidays).
4. Emotions
College without a doubt is an emotional rollercoaster. One second you’re ecstatic that you’ve finished a huge project and that your week of tests is done then the next you realize you’ve completely put off doing any homework because of studying sending you into that stressed out spiral. On top of working on school work, hopefully you’ve been trying to make friends they come with emotions as well. Having to balance the friends and schoolwork and your own emotions can cause a mental breakdown. Thanksgiving break allows you to have a few days to yourself where you can cry and laugh and just relax on your own.
5. Family
Holidays are all about family. Whether you’re an instate student or out of state, the transition into college and the workload that goes along with it makes it harder to spend time with those people who are so special to you. Over Thanksgiving break make sure to love your family and yourself. Those are the two most important things in your life. Spend a day or two just binge watching sappy TV shows with your mom or going on a walk with your dad. Family is important and even if you’re sick of them or they’ve been driving you crazy throughout this first semester, they love you and have been there for you. If you’re not going home give your parents a call and tell them how much you miss them. Take off those big-boy or girl pants and just be their baby again. Trust me you’ll feel a lot better after it.
Thanksgiving Break is right around the corner. Hang in there, you’ve got this. After these four days are done you’ll be ready to take on dead week and finals then we’ve got a month off school. You’ll realize how much you miss those crazy roommates and the seemingly endless lectures and you won’t be able to wait until next semester starts (okay that’s a stretch but you’ll definitely miss those friends you’ve made).
