5 Reasons Spring Is The Best Season

In my humble opinion, out of all the seasons, spring is the best. Everybody has their own personal views. I can respect that. We are all different people, living our own lives, just doing our best. Some people prefer fall and the return of sweater weather and all manner of pumpkin paraphernalia. Some enjoy the freedom and the heat that comes with summer. I can think of no one that likes winter. Unless you live somewhere like California or the Bahamas where winter doesn’t exist and you can say things like, "Oh, January isn’t that bad! A little balmy maybe," then you don’t count. Spring is a wonderful time of the year, and here are some reasons why:

1. The plants come back to life!

Who doesn’t like flowers? Spring means the recession of snow and ice and the emergence of all manner of greenery. Flowers bloom again and trees boast emerald leaves again. I guess a pristine, white blanket of snow has its moments of beauty, but there is nothing quite like looking at fresh, green grass studded with blossoms. Lovely.

2. Spring break!

There is a serious absence of rest between the months of January and March. Seemingly endless waves of work pour in from every angle and midterms loom large in the distance. Spring break is the oasis in the desert, the two-week long spot of light on the horizon. It breaks the nearly three month long run of nothing but responsibility. Spring break, for some, also means Easter and family time and little plastic eggs filled with jelly beans (and sometimes $). And for those very lucky people, spring break means going somewhere tropical to do nothing but lounge on a beach. Amazing.

3. No more winter coats!

Spring is the official banishment of winter weather (or it’s supposed to be). This means that those of us that have been trapped in an icy hell for the past few months can shed the many layers of coats and sweaters and feel a little more human and a little less polar bear. Spring also means the return of dresses, and therefore the ability to forgo pants once and for all for those that so choose. (This also means that our nice shoes no longer have to be stored inside our bags as we squish through slush. Good looking and space saving! Wins all around.)

4. Spring cleaning!

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but winter turns me into a pack rat. In cold weather, I have the irrepressible urge to nest, which leaves my space inevitably cluttered. Spring means spring cleaning and sweeping out all that has collected during the long and harsh winter. As a tip, when spring cleaning, clearing out your closet can be a perfect way to asses your spring wardrobe and donate whatever you think no longer suits you. Also, you should vacuum all the popcorn kernels that fell under your desk sometime in January. Maybe that’s just me.

5. Food gets really good again!

I love cold weather food, don’t get me wrong. But at some point, soup and stews and hot sandwiches no longer cut it. The reemergence of warmth means that menus open back up and salad can be enjoyed again without needing to wrap yourself up in a blanket. Smoothies can be had for breakfast without turning you into a human ice block. For some reason, tacos become a thing again. (I don't know, they just taste better when it’s warm out.) For a tip for eating like a pro during the spring, check out what fruits and veggies are in season! Eating what’s supposed to be growing will ensure that they are top notch.

All the other seasons have their good moments, too. But there’s something about spring.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
