5 Reasons Putting Yourself First Isn't Selfish

I’ll never understand why others believe doing what’s best for yourself is selfish. Are we so caught up in life that we believe others are always going to do what’s best for us instead of what’s best for them? It’s already so easy to put the desires of others in front of our own just to keep other people happy. I say we stop constantly putting others above ourselves and start making our desires, wants, and feelings a priority.

1. It’s extremely important for your health

Making yourself a priority is necessary for emotional stability, mental state, and physical health. You can literally drive yourself sick worrying about others so much. Worry about yourself instead and work on making you a better person. I realize selfishness is often considered a negative trait, but if your health is being affected from trying to be a people pleaser all the time, it’s time to make some changes.

2. You won’t feel as irritable all the time

Skipping out on meeting your own needs only leads to disaster. You feel upset all the time, you can’t eat, and you can’t sleep. All of this just leads to you being super irritable and annoying for everyone else to be around as well. However, once you take the time to focus on yourself, this irritableness will fade away. You’ll be happier with your life and with yourself, and also more for enjoyable for others to be around.

3. You’ll actually be able to say “No”

Life isn’t about being a “Yes Man” all the time. Sometimes you just have to say no for your own well-being. If people truly care about you, they won’t get mad when you say no. I realize it is difficult saying no sometimes, but it’s extremely important to learn to say it. If you always say yes, you begin to take on more than you can handle, stress yourself out, and do things you may rather not do. In addition, it often means you’re helping others before helping yourself, which is neglectful to you. Learn to say no and don’t feel bad about it.

4. Your relationships will become healthier

The fact is that if you’re not leading a healthy lifestyle, you’re not going to be able to maintain healthy relationships either. If you take the time to put your own needs first for a while, you’ll become happier with your life, which will then lead to happier relationships. Two people who both lead happy and independent lifestyles work great together.

5. You’ll start smiling more

We all know that nothing is better than smiling, laughing, and just having a great time. In addition, you’re most helpful to the world when you’re smiling. Not only will you feel better, but you’ll also brighten the days of those around you. We all need to take the time to be truly happy and do the things that make us happiest in life. You’re also going to be able to help out others better if you’ve taken the time to make yourself happy, too.

Now obviously I am not telling you to become a self-absorbed human being. It is still very important to be there for other people as well, just don’t feel like their happiness is completely dependent on you. Only you can make yourself truly happy, so please take the time to do so.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
