1. They're from Charlottesville, Virginia.
This is one of the most charismatic towns on the East Coast. Dave got started working as a bartender in this classic college town that binds the perfect mix of Southern charm with an indie urban flare. Dave basically made the home of UVa into an indie music hub.
2. They are basically their own genre.
According to Wikipedia, DMB falls into eight different genre categories! This is because there is no other music quite like this: they don’t quite fit into rock, jazz, folk or pop, but instead bring a fusion of these. Dave is so successful because not only are all their live songs relaxing, but they also have plenty of rock ballads to jam out to.
3. Can we talk about their live music?
Dave Matthews Band has 20 live albums on Spotify, and not just because they do a lot of concerts. Personally, I might even say I prefer Dave’s live music to his studio recordings because, this is super cheesy, but you can feel the energy he gives off to his audience and how much he loves doing what he does. In addition, he’s performed with some of the most talented artists of our era, like Tim Reynolds.
4. They are very philanthropic.
I didn’t know this before I did my research, but DMB did a ton to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in Sri Lanka. They also support arts and humanities in the Charlottesville metro area. It’s also notable that they’ve gone against the classic rock culture in that none of them have been publicly involved in drug abuse.

5. Their music is just the best for every scenario and every season.
Whether you want an intimate love song or a pumped-up jam for driving, Crash into Me and Ants Marching are their classic songs that everyone knows (even fake fans). The best part is that they’ve been consistently coming out with new albums since 1993 and it doesn’t look like they’re stopping anytime soon. Thank you, DMB!
