5 Reasons I Lavaliered My Girlfriend
Emily Bissel

This past Friday I decided to make a huge step in my relationship with my beautiful girlfriend. I've had this plan in the works for quite a few weeks now, and I was finally able to put it into action. Although, the plans changed last minute due to the weather, everything still fell in place perfectly. I blindfolded my girlfriend and drove her out to the park. My fraternity brothers and a few of her sorority sisters were waiting out there with candles to witness our ceremony, and once I guided her to the circle of our mutual friends, I took the blindfold off. She was so surprised and excited, and I'll never forget that look on her face. I lavaliered that incredibly beautiful girl who I love with all of my heart. And here's why I decided to do it:

1. She is an Alpha Delta Pi woman.

As a sorority girl, she understands the importance and full meaning behind a lavalier. She understands the huge commitment behind me giving her my letters and her accepting to wear them around her neck.

2. I'm showing her that I'm committed to her.

Making promises is one thing, but by lavaliering my girlfriend she knows I'm committed to her and only her. There will never be another woman in my life, besides my mom and my sisters, and no one will ever take her from me. She is wearing my letters, showing the world that she is mine and I am hers.

3. I'm bringing together the two things I love most.

My girlfriend and my brothers are some of the most important people in my life (right behind God and my family, of course). By presenting my girlfriend the letters of my fraternity, I am able to intertwine two of the very best things that I have.

4. I wanted to show her how much she means to me.

I wanted her to know that she's the first thing I think about when I wake up, and she's the last thing I think about when I fall asleep. Even though my fraternity and studies take up a majority of time, she is always going to be one of my main priorities. She is the love of my life and the reason why no other relationship ever worked out in the past. I truly believe God sent her to me, and I want to spend the rest of my life showing her how much I care about her.

5. I'm going to marry her someday.

By lavaliering her, she knows that I'm serious about spending forever with her. This is only the first step toward us getting married, and I cannot wait for the day that I get to see her walk down the aisle. This is my promise to her that I'm absolutely positive that I'm ready to make her mine forever, but I just can't afford the perfect ring yet because I'm a broke college student.

After spending an entire year with her, my girlfriend has become one of the most important people in my life. I know that I make mistakes and can be annoying sometimes, but she still loves me unconditionally and supports me in everything I do. She keeps me grounded during the crazy and stressful weeks of school, and she always knows how to cheer me up when I'm in a bad mood. She is the light of my life and the reason that I wake up smiling every day. I love her with all my heart, and I know for a fact that one day I will marry this girl.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
