5 Reasons I Joined A Fraternity

There's No Better Life Than Greek Life

5 Reasons I Joined A Fraternity
Daily Mail

I came to college with absolutely no interest in being in a fraternity. Nothing about Greek life excited me. I had all of the stereotypical thoughts of what a fraternity was and the influence of others running through my mind and frankly I didn’t think they were interested in me. When I received my bid all of that changed. I started to imagine my life as a brother of a fraternity. I’m glad Theta Chi found me. I’m glad that I found brothers for life.

Here're the top five reasons why I joined Theta Chi:

1. Social Mixers

Mixers are always a good time. It gives you the opportunity to meet up with other fraternities, sororities, and other organizations to have fun. I find it to be a way for me to escape and forget all about the mounds of work that I have to do for school. Whether it is drinking tea with the sisters of Delta Nu Kappa or tossing the Frisbee with the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega, you can always count on mixers to extract you from reality and bring a little joy to your life.

2. Academia

Why did we come to college, to go to wild college parties? No…well yes, but to also get this crazy thing called an education. Now I realize that all you are imagining is a fraternity that throwing wild parties, that are tons of fun if my add, but being a part of Theta Chi made me realize that what I did in the classroom was the most important thing. Statistics show that being a part of a fraternity or other organizations of like manner are actually more academically more successful, so there’s that!

3. Letters

This may sound so silly to anyone who is not Greek, but wearing letters is one greatest feelings. It brings a sense of belonging and pride. With those two or three letters that you rep along your chest, you know that you are holding yourself to the great standards of your fraternity and or sorority. Bonus you get be all channel your inner crafty side (my Disney-themed letters soon to come--LOL) and go wild.

4. Pledge Dad/Son (Big/Little)

Sometimes the biggest joys in college come in little packages. When I found out who my pledge dad would be there was nothing less than pure excitement in my body. He was the only fit for me and I knew he would be able to teach me new things, embrace me for who I was, and encourage me to chase my dreams. My dad is the best and is the reason why I am in a fraternity. And then there are other times when little things have big impacts in your life. My son is amazing! We are freakishly similar and there would be no other child that I would want. Being a part of a frat family is great because you get to choose your perfect family and go on journeys you’ve never imagined and gain memories you’d never forget.

5. Friendships

I joined my fraternity to gain friends but instead I gained brothers. The bond that I’ve gained through being with these men is unbreakable. I gained some of my best friends through the bonding with my brothers. This is not to say that we are perfect, but like every great family, there are disagreements and arguments but the important thing is that at the end of the day there is love. We are brothers by choice but friends by opportunity. We are one.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
