I finally understand what falling in love at first sight is like. I have become a crazy cat mom, to be perfectly honest. About three months ago, my boyfriend convinced me to get a kitten. At the time, my dad thought I was absolutely insane, but he's fallen in love with this little ball of fur too. I will never own another cat after he leaves this world, because no cat could replace the endless nose kisses, belly rubs (yes my cat likes his belly rubbed), and no other cat could replace him falling asleep on my chest and face to the point that I can't breathe. I wouldn't even replace his whiskers going straight up my nostrils. His name is Bentley, and he's my whole world.
Why I'm a crazy cat mom, reason number one – I have already planned out his first birthday party. He turns one September 3, three days after my 21st birthday. Coincidence? I think not. My two roommates and I are throwing him a birthday party, (just the three of us I might add), with lots of alcohol and cute party hats.
Why I'm a crazy cat mom, reason number two – I have more pictures with my cat than I do with my own boyfriend. Now that's actually saying something, I've been dating my boyfriend for five years….Should this be in The Guinness Book of World Records? Yes. I foresee many framed pictures of Bentley and I in the near future. Lastly, no one can compete with our selfie game, exhibit A:
Why I'm a crazy cat mom, reason number three – I have an extremely vocal cat, and you bet your ass we have full-blown conversations with each other. We've gotten to the point that we're extremely dependent on each other. For example, if I'm upstairs and Bentley is downstairs, he will meow-cry until I say his name. At that moment he realizes that he's located me, he comes running, and he jumps on the bed to lie on my chest. This happens maybe twenty times a day.
Why I'm a crazy cat mom, reason number four – I could stare at him all day long. He's the cutest little nugget to ever walk on this earth. Last week, he fell asleep in my arms like a baby falls asleep in a mother's arms. On top of staring at him, I also talk to him in the highest pitched baby voice ever. I give him endless amounts of compliments. To quote my mother, “Does she always talk to him like this…?" Yes, yes I do.
Why I'm a crazy cat mom, reason number five – If my cat tries to be cuddly with any other human but me, I go into super jealousy mode. He's mine, not yours, get that in your brain. Just because we're college students who probably had to move away from the pets we've had our whole lives, and you probably haven't felt love from an animal in months, doesn't mean that you can get all lovey-dovey with mine. I'm just saying.
All things aside, I truly believe that not only do we pick out which cat we want, but they also have to choose us back. Honestly, they might even choose us first. Bentley was the first kitten I saw, and here I am writing this article. I think many of you can agree with me on most of these points. Animals love us more than any human ever could. Pets don't live on this earth as long as humans, because humans spend their whole lives learning how to love. Our pets already know how to love.
