Sit back and try to think about qualities in people that drive you a little crazy – in the best way possible. This is a shout-out to those people, you know the type; it could be a family member, your significant other, one of your best friends, your favorite professor, or your dog. These are the people that make you try a little harder and force you to think a little differently. These people tempt you. You often want to punch them in the face but ultimately, you appreciate them and the effort they put in to try and help you out. To my person, this is for you.
1. You challenge me.
“You’re the Yin to my Yang,” is a saying that couldn’t be truer. I have a love/hate relationship with our differences but I have found over time that they are only making us stronger. Whenever I express a thought, you are there playing the Devil’s Advocate. You force me to think differently and I hate admitting that I kind of like it.
2. You make me laugh when I really don’t want to.
I like to think that everyone just has “those days." The days you wake up feeling like you were run over by a bus, or when you take a sip of your morning coffee and burn your tongue so you feel as though you’ve been set up for a terrible day. When you are around, I really can't take advantage of these oh-so-terrible days. Nope. Instead, you look at me with a smile, hug me when I’m bummed, or tickle me until I almost pee my pants (one of these days, I am most likely going to kick you in the face, sorry not sorry.) It’s because of you that I haven’t had one of “those days” in a very long time.
3. You’re a realist.
This irks the dreamer in me. As often as I try to simply rely on hope for future plans, you set me straight and remind me that hoping doesn’t work as well as working until plans are achieved. As I try to fly away you keep your feet firm on the ground and try to pull me in to realize things for their actuality. As I am learning to adult, I need that.
4. You’re honest with me even when I don’t want to hear it.
You call me out on my sassy attitude when I’m tired or hungry, you ask me if I think I should fix my crazy hair when we’re going out into public, and you remind me of what it’s going to take for a relationship to be successful. The truth hurts sometimes, but I know now more than ever that honesty really is the best policy.
5. You really don’t expect a whole lot.
If I don’t hear “I want to do whatever you want to do” ever again, it’ll be too soon. Your happiness is dependent on my happiness, which many people don’t think is the best thing. With you around, we’re both pretty freakin’ happy and content with all that is going on and our ideas of what will come.
So, thank you to my person. I’ve grown and continue to grow every day because of you. I hope everyone has someone in their life that pushes them and helps them learn something new every day. I consider myself lucky that I do.
