5 Reasons Why Going To The Movies Is Better Than Netflix

In the past few years Netflix culture (and yes, there is most definitely a Netflix culture) has rapidly overtaken the way we perceive entertainment. It is a wonderful platform to watch movies and TV from the comfort of your home, but in all its glory there is something that Netflix just cannot beat and that is going to the movie theater. Of course people still go to the movies in record numbers (Star Wars: The Force Awakens seemed to break every box office record there is), but streaming is making life for movies a lot more complicated. Film producers are unsure whether or not to release certain movies in theaters or directly to a platform like Hulu or Netflix. Often times now, the streaming option is the best for them. Despite the rapid growth of these platforms the magic of going to the movie theater is an experience the couch will never be able to beat.

1. The food

Of course you can chow down on anything at home, but microwave popcorn doesn't have the same buttery delicious taste it does in a theater. There is a certain joy in loading up on the popcorn, soda, and candy when you're at a movie theater that can't be duplicated in any other setting.

2. The screen

The TV at home may be the latest technology, but the theater has a gigantic screen. Seeing movies on such a large platform takes the viewer into the story. It makes every sad scene more heart breaking, every action scene seems to explode twice as much, and every happy ending is grander. In this case, size matters.

3. No distractions

When watching a movie at home on Netflix you will pause it at least five times because of that lovely little glass box we call a smart phone. In the dark comfort of a movie theater the phone goes off and total attention can be paid to the movie. Nobody will be there to blabber on and on either which likely happens at home if you live with your family or roommates.

4. The crowd

Sure crowds can be a bad thing, but at the movie theater they're a bonus! Seeing a movie with a good crowd makes it an immersive experience. Hearing a room full of 60 people scream, laugh, or cheer all at once is a strangely exhilarating feeling that really makes watching a movie more fun.

5. The memory

I know that whenever I go see a movie in the theater I hold onto it as a memory. A perfect day or night out with my best friends, boyfriend, or family. This is what is really special about movie theaters, they make the small act of watching a movie an event, something special. Watching House of Cards at home on your couch doesn't exactly conjure the same effect.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
