As summer draws to a close, many people dread going back to school. I totally understand. Two months of freedom are over, but we don’t have to be completely bummed about it! The first official day of Fall is September 22nd—just a few weeks away!

Fall is my favorite season. With Halloween and endless Pumpkin Spice Lattes, why would I want anything else? Here are my top five reasons for loving this time of year:

1. Changing Weather

Ok, I know that Florida doesn’t have drastic differences in the weather between the seasons, but there is a noticeable change! Especially once we get into October, and the weather goes down into the lower 70’s/upper 60’s, it starts to feel amazing! Personally, I enjoy the colder months rather than the hotter ones, which is ironic because I live in the hottest place in the country. Even though we don’t experience as much of a color change within our fall months, it is a nice, refreshing twist, as opposed to the 100-degree summer we’ve just endured.

2. Time For Change

Many of us set out on new adventures as fall approaches. Some start college, some start high school, whatever the occasion may be, it is different for all of us. It is up to everyone to decide how they go about this transition.

3. Football Season

This one is self-explanatory. Who doesn’t love going out on Friday/Saturday nights and cheering on their school’s football team? Throughout high school, these were the most talked about nights. Whether you’re there for the game, the band, or even just to hang out, the school spirit is so evident and it is very uplifting. For one night, just forget about everything and let loose with your classmates. Sit in the student section, cheer on your team, and have a great time!

4. Pumpkin Spice

Ok, I know I sound stereotypical with this one, but it’s true. It is a great day when I can walk into Starbucks and order a Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino! I may be the only one, but Fall is my favorite because I know all the festive foods are about to hit the stores. Don’t even get me started on pumpkin pie… It’s my weakness.

5. Halloween

October is my favorite month because, not only does my birthday fall within it, but also my favorite holiday, Halloween!!!! It’s the one time of year where it is totally acceptable to decorate your house with scary decorations, buy all the candy your heart desires, and pretend to be something that you’re not. Even as you grow older, Halloween can still be fascinating and fun! Although, at this point, it isn’t very normal for us to go out and knock on strangers’ doors for candy, but there are still plenty of costume parties and such that we can attend! And if you’re not into the party scene, there is nothing wrong with staying in and watching Halloweentown—Trust me, I’ve seen all of them more than I would like to admit.

Whether you’re excited for the football games, the cooler weather, or Halloween, Fall is a great time to enjoy with the people around you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
