Time Magazine has been looking for their Person of the Year, and being the great Samaritan that I am, I have decided to help them out (do a little rhetorical persuasion, as they say). If the rhetorical part doesn’t work, then I know I have wasted my time attending that class, but my suggestion still stands. Drake is their guy. Drake is their Person of the Year.
1. He’s the BEST kind of ladies’ man
A guy that can make a girl swoon less than five minutes has got to be a guru of sorts. I feel like the best part is he doesn’t even try to be a ladies’ man, it is effortless and just so dang mouth-watering! All he has to do is lay down a verse, like say: “How beautiful our kids would be, girl, I don’t need convincing.” SWOON, TOO MUCH SWOONIN’.
2. MEMES, SO MANY HILARIOUS MEMES
Social media loves to play with Drake’s feelings, and as far as we are concerned, that man has A LOT of feelings. Because of his soft and corny persona, media doesn’t mind making fun of him, and Drake doesn’t seem to mind either. It seems that he feeds off of it in a way that he knows will be good for his brand and his growing bank account.
3. He is highly ambitious
This isn’t a game to Drake! He has been hungry for the chance to accomplish his dreams since the days of "Degrassi." He collaborates with the best people in the industry (except for Meek Mill. We will never claim that). He knows his worth: “I mean I kill’em every time they do a song with me, momma. I sing a hook and they sing along with me, momma.” Drake isn’t afraid to step on toes and be real, because this is his dream, something not worth giving up on.
4. Loyalty, Loyalty, Loyalty.
The key word everyone lacks these days. Drake makes it a priority to never forget the people that came up with him – 40, OB, P.Reign, PND, etc - and to maintain relationships with the new (equally real) friends. All he ever asked is keep it eight more than 92 with him, one hundred! Is that so hard to do, people? Is that so hard?
5. THE SPIFFY DANCE MOVES
Nobody has anything on Drake’s dance moves. They are legendary, innovative, and embarrassingly dad-like. End of.
Bottom line is Drake is great. He dances, sing-raps, and has enough swagger to last him years. His influence over social media is sadly beautiful, but the better part of him is that he makes sure to fulfill his purpose of being a celebrity. It isn’t about the cars, the girls, or the money. He is providing for his family and living a life that they all thought to be a far-fetched idea. If that doesn’t sell then I don’t know what will. So TIME, don’t go off picking some random to be person of the year. Pick Champagne Papi, because you’ll never lose with him.
