5 Reasons Being the Youngest of Many is a Gift

Being the youngest of a lot of siblings is a blessing in disguise.

5 Reasons Being the Youngest of Many is a Gift

Having a lot of siblings is fantastic, and being the youngest of those many is even better. Yeah, you have to deal with the punishments, getting picked on, and the occasional hammy-down. It can suck to have, having the older siblings constantly be in charge, and saying you're the spoiled baby, but once you grow up just a bit it gets a whole lot better.

1. You always have a ride.

Your sibling wants to go to the mall, or to the movies; perfect! That means you have a ride to your friends house or to your movie. Just bug mom enough, and she'll do all the work. Soon enough, it becomes, "If you want to use the car then you'll have to drop your little (input gender specific sibling nomenclature) off at their friends house." Just one of the perks.

2. You have a whole lot of clothes to choose from.

As long as you're within a couple years of your siblings, you have all of your clothes and all of theirs to choose from. In most cases, those clothes are taken without permission and if not returned before the aforementioned sibling knows you're pretty screwed.

3. You have been given role models.

Fortunately, you're born with role models. My siblings were just incredible growing up. I was able to see one become a lawyer, one run his own company, one become a professional student it seems. I knew what I could and couldn't do with my parents and more importantly was shown that aspirations can turn into reality.

4. You have protection.

I don't necessarily mean that they protect you in a fight, though they do. I mean that you have ammunition, if mom tells you that you can't do something just bring up how she let your brother do something similar. Or if you got in trouble, just slip that your sister got drunk at the last party and mom forgets about you breaking a window pretty damn quickly.

5. You have help.

The most important thing is that you have help. You have people to lean on, and people to go to. You have people to give you advice, and support you if anything happens. Going through a tough patch in school? They take you out to get ice cream. Going through a break up? They tell you all the reasons that person wasn't right and why you'll find someone so much better.

Being the youngest of many siblings is an up and down roller coaster. You have all these things in movies that show how it can kind of suck at times, but the reality is that it is one of the luckiest things in the world. I would not trade being the youngest of seven for the world. I have more supporters than most, and many more minds to pick. They are honestly the reason I am the person I am today.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
