You would expect a college students favorite holiday to be Christmas or New Years but personally nothing is better than Thanksgiving. This time relaxation and fellowship are needed extremely. Most students are barely making past midterms and need a chance to recharge for the final stretch of the semester. For me, Thanksgiving is chance for me enjoy my family, a home cooked meal and a weekend of relaxation. Here are five reasons why I love Thanksgiving Break.

5. Spending time with my parents

Believe it or not during school, you might actually start to miss your parents. I know when I'm at school, I see my parents at least twice a month. That's sad right? But going home and spending time with the people you love in some ways can be better than going to a lame party with the same people you see everyday.

4. Sleeping in my old room

I'm a 21 year old senior in college with my own place, it's safe to say I've moved out of the nest aka my parents house. But there is nothing better than going home and sleeping in the bed you've grown up in. After eating and hanging out with family, my old room was my sanctuary. I napped, played some Madden and watched Netflix.

3. Football

Of course there is no Thanksgiving without the multiple football games on television. I've grown a custom too watching " America's Team" the Dallas Cowboys lose throughout the years but times have sadly changed. The Cowboys are actually a good team for once, thanks to Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot. Nevertheless, despite the reality show called the Dallas Cowboys, football on Thanksgiving with food on my plate is heaven on earth.

2. Black Friday

When Thanksgiving comes along, that only means one thing, Christmas around the corner. Black Friday is a time online shoppers like myself find deals to make sure the people you love the most have a special Christmas. This is one of the few times you can actually find gifts that won't break your pockets. With parents, immediate family and a girlfriend my pockets need all the help I can get.

1. Food, food and more food!

Beans, greens, tomatoes, potatoes, you name it! As a college student, some time you get tired of constantly eating out, ordering Chinese food or eating whatever is left in the cafeteria on campus. A nice home cooked meal is a blessing from God. Especially when your mother is the best cook you know, my stomach was very satisfied. You can't beat those to go plates full of leftovers as well. I won't be ordering Chinese food for a while.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
