5 Random Things Everyone Should Do This Summer
Emily Plante

Summer break is something that everyone looks forward to. School is over which means basically no responsibilities for three months. The beginning of summer is great with multiple beach trips being made each wee. However, there always comes a point during the summer where you get bored. You’ve gone to the beach so many times that you just don’t want to go anymore. You’re so used to going though that you don’t know what else to do. Here’s five random things that everyone should do at least once in the summer.

1. Watch a Thunder Storm

With the summer heat there are sure to be plenty of thunderstorms. Sure, you can’t really go outside and do anything during them but you can sit inside and watch them. There’s something so peaceful about the sight and sound of rain coming down and if you really look at the lightning it’s actually quite interesting.

2. Go Off the Path

If your GPS tells you to take a left, go ahead and take a right! You never know what kind of amazing places you will end up! Spontaneous adventures are more than likely going to be the most enjoyable and the most memorable. And who knows you might find some random horses along the way!

3. Say yes and do something different

Have you ever been asked to do something that is a little outside of your comfort zone? I’m guessing you have and I am also guessing that when asked you were a little unsure and said no. Well next time someone asks you to do something a little different say yes! Amazing memories will be made and who knows when the next time the opportunity will come up! It could be a once in a lifetime opportunity!

4. Lay in a Hammock

Trust me on this one, laying in a hammock is probably the most relaxing thing you can do. If you have a hammock that allows you to set it up anywhere then that’s even better. Just being out there in nature, kind of disconnected from the world, really calms a person down. If you want you can throw on some music, I would recommend The Lumineers, and just think. You’ll be surprised what you can think of. In fact, I thought of this article while laying in a hammock listening to The Lumineers!

5. Start a Journal

With all of the amazing adventures that you will go on this summer it’s hard to keep all of the memories in order. A journal can help with this! You will be able to write everything down and when you look back on it months from now you can relive it. You can add little tokens from each adventure as well. Movie ticket stubs, pictures, brochures, and just about anything you want can be added to the journal.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
