10 Things To Do This Summer When You Are Home From College

If you are anything like me and my friends, breaks from school can be a little, let's say, uneventful. Don't get me wrong, I love sitting around and doing absolutely nothing, but at some point, the thought of "what am I doing with my life?" always manages to drift through my mind. And I am almost positive it drifts through yours as well.

My friends and I always talk about how sick and fun summer break will be, ambitiously committing to grandiose and eventful plans. However, once we are all actually back home from school, each of us is either too lazy, tired, broke, or honestly just unsure of what to do.

So, if you are a college student and can't afford going on all those amazing vacations that we see in the movies, hopefully this might help you out a bit.

1. Go to a music festival or concert with your friends.

This will definitely give you something to look forward to, especially with outfit planning. Free concerts in NYC are a must!

2. Pack a comfy blanket or an artsy tapestry and have a picnic by a lake or beach!

3.Get everyone together.

Since we may not be seeing our college friends for a good two months or so, why not invite them all over and introduce them to your home friends! I myself am planning a huge joint BBQ for both my college and home friends.

4. Spend time with your family.

Get lunch with your parents, get your nails done with your mom, see a movie with your brother, go shopping with your sister, on a walk with your dog; the list is endless! They love spending time with us, and while we would rather be with our friends at times, finding time to spend with family is always so important.

5. Explore cities.

Considering that I live 20 minutes from New York City, my friends and I always take advantage of the proximity. Get on a bus or train with your friends and go on an adventure! Go shopping in Soho or search for great deals in underrated, low-key thrift stores. Get lunch in a cute little cafe--my personal favorite is a cafe called Jack's Wife Freda. Go to Central Park, bars, clubs, art museums, etc.

6. Have a movie night with your best friends.

I know that my friends and I always have a good time watching scary movies while stuffing our faces with food that we regret eating the next day.

7. Go camping with family or friends.

What is better than getting lost in the woods? Actually though, what is better than spending time in nature and disconnecting yourself from society for a couple of days?

8. Go on a hike.

There are many trails to hike no matter where you live. I love hiking, as it is not just enjoyable, but also rewarding, considering the workout you get in without even realizing. The views can be killer, so keep that potential Instagram picture in mind!

9. Go on a road trip.

Buy tons of snacks, pick out cute outfits, bring a Polaroid camera for memories, and don't forget the bomb playlist filled with throwbacks to blast while you close your eyes and think of how blessed you are that it is summer.

10. Read a book.

There are always going to be those rainy days where you just want to bum it out. Nothing beats picking up a book that really reels you in and helps you forget about all your worries and boredom. Even if it's not raining, I love cuddling in bed with a book, or just tanning and reading in my backyard.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
