Being a college student and being stressed out are two concepts that go hand in hand. Even when you think that you have nothing to do, you will most likely be unpleasantly surprised to find out later on that you in fact, have a homework assignment or some task left to do.
As someone who has struggled for years with an anxiety disorder, I know first hand what stressing about every single detail of life can feel like. I've worked on this for a while now, and have found five quotes that really sum up how to deal with and change your outlook on stress.
1. "If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath". -Amit Ray
Overthinking is easily one of the most significant contributors to stress. Instead of worrying what you have to do and accomplish later on, worry about what you are doing at that moment, and take things one step at a time.
2. “Our culture encourages us to plan every moment and fill our schedules with one activity and obligation after the next, with no time to just be. But the human body and mind require downtime to rejuvenate. I have found my greatest moments of joy and peace just sitting in silence, and then I take that joy and peace with me out into the world.” -Holly Mosier
Always try to plan in some free time to relax in your long, busy, days. Getting your mind straight and thoughts together make future tasks less stressful.
3. “If you decide to focus on one thing at a time, instead of trying to solve everything at once, and just do that one thing, then you will feel a sudden decrease in stress.” -Gudjon Bergmann
Sometimes planning and thinking too far in advance is a stress increaser. Take each task one step at a time. Make a list of what you need to do and focus on each task one at a time.
4. "It is not stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it". -Hans Selye
Always remember that stress can be managed. You may not be able to control exactly how you react to certain stressors, but you can make changes to how you adapt to the stress. Always take a deep breath and relax.
5. "Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and enjoy the journey" -Babs Hoffman
Overall, life is going to throw stress in your path. You can either live your life waiting for the next moment you are going to stress, or conquer that stress and turn it positive.
