Being a twin, I have been asked some pretty ridiculous questions throughout my life. People find it so intriguing that siblings can be born on the exact same day, share a birthday and always be the same age. Some questions that are asked make sense and others I can't put my finger on why someone would ask that. Some frequent questions twins are asked:
1. Which one of you is older? This question is something twins love because the older twin can shout out how there 8 minutes older and immediately feel empowered because we have never been used to feeling like an older sibling. Even though our age difference is only by a few minutes, it's a blessing to be able to say you're the oldest child in the house because you can still use that excuse in order to sit in the front seat.
2. Isn't it weird sharing special days with someone every year? Yes it can be weird, getting up the morning of your birthday and wishing your brother or sister a happy birthday. Also on graduation day, seeing your sibling walk the stage right before you. Other people my age may think this is awful and that attention is always drawn away from you, but it is truly amazing getting to share these days with your very first bestfriend. You also don't know any different because we have always grown up sharing things with each other.
3. No way, you're a twin? Sometimes people act like you're from a different planet when you admit you're a twin. Being a twin really isn’t that uncommon, so I will never understand the surprised look on some people's faces. There's always that occasional person in your high school that will come up to you and tell you that your sibling and you look nothing alike and they had no idea you were even related.
4. Do you guys have a secret language or read minds? My brother and I have been asked this question when we were younger and we would look at each other with such confusion. Sometimes we would even pretend in front of people and do some sort of weird hand gestures just to freak them out.
5. Are you guys identical? No we are not identical. He is a boy and I am a girl. We are fraternal twins who do not dress the same, do not share clothing, do not have the same friends and do not look exactly alike.
Having a twin may bring along a million questions and shocked faces, but in the end, people truly don't understand how lucky it is. Your twin will always be around to hangout with, always there to talk to and the only one who understands how crazy your family really is. They are always there in every family memory and family event. Growing up with someone the same age as you gives you a friend since birth and someone who has seen you through all stages of life. Your twin is always the closest person to you and will always be your very best friend.
