We are all constantly changing ourselves and learning new things, but there comes a time when we feel the need to reexamine our identity more in depth. Once in a while, we find ourselves asking what it means to be "me." This time of reflection can be hard, and it can cause us to feel lost. Here are five pieces of advice for the people going through this time of their life right now.
1. Embrace your mistakes
Mistakes are so important when going through this self-reflection. It is all too easy to get caught up on the things we should have done differently, but dwelling on the past doesn't improve your future. It is important to learn a lesson from the past and move on. Guilt and regret only hurt you in the long run. It isn't healthy to let these negative feelings impact you on a daily basis. You need to learn to let some things go so that you are able to grow.
2. Satisfy your curiosity
Now is the time to try new things and discover what you do and do not like. In order to figure yourself out, you need to figure out the small things that make up who you are. Being willing to jump in and learn something new about yourself is so important.
3. Practice confidence
It may not seem like it, but you are much more capable than you believe. Even when you aren't really sure what you are doing, own it. Pretend like you are an expert and your confidence will come. Soon enough, you will begin to believe in yourself and have the courage to face any challenge.
4. Do what scares you the most
If it scares you, it improves you. Embracing your fear will help you to grow tremendously because once you know that you can conquer what terrifies you most, you can do almost anything. Also, you may realize that what once scared you the most is actually something you love. If you don't have courage, you may miss out on a great opportunity of self-discovery.
5. Spend time with yourself
This is perhaps the most important piece of advice. If you don't want to spend time with yourself, who else would? You need to embrace the silence when you're alone and separate yourself from others every once in a while. Learn about yourself, and most importantly, learn to love yourself.
