We all have a certain parent or parental figure we call for specific issues. Everyone’s family is different but this is a universal concept. I live half a country away from my parents now so I tend to call them quite often for help or just to chat.
1. The "I’m Bored" Call:
Sometimes you are just too bored and have no one you’d rather bother than your parents. You talk about the things you bought that day, the random thing your pet just did, or how you think your food is going bad in your fridge.
2. The "help I’m out of my element" call:
“How do I know if this avocado is ripe?”
“Where you they keep molasses in the store?”
“What should I wear to a dog birthday party?”
Why google when you can just call your parents? They are a deep well of knowledge for all things that revolve, you have no idea what you are getting yourself into.
3. The "should I buy this" call:
I am 27 and I still run big purchases past my parents. At this point, not for their help, but to ferret out if I really need or want this item. My dad asks if I have the money up front, which is always "No". Will I be able to buy this later, which is always "Yes". Is it on sale, "Why yes, yes it is". He’ll say I should wait and I buy it anyways.
4. The "I need to borrow some money" call:
The older you get, hopefully, the less often these will happen. Just a little short on rent this month? An unexpected medical bill? Not all parents have the ability to help, but most will want to try.
5. The "I’m a hot mess and I miss you" call:
Being away from your parents is hard. When you are sick you want to be taken care of. When you are sad you want to be told it will be okay is when you just miss them more than anything in the world.
Every kid needs their parents every once in a while. No matter how old they get.
