5 Perks Of Your Parents Being Your Best Friends

If you are lucky, and I mean really lucky, you have been blessed with amazing parents. Parents who know when you are sad even if you aren't frowning or crying, when you need a hug without asking, or know that all you need to feel better is a 10-piece chicken nugget and will bring you one even if you haven't asked. If you're lucky, you have parents like mine.

Here are the biggest perks of having your parents as your best friends:

1. They will always hang out with you.

Friends our age are fun, but sometimes you just want to spend time with your most favorite people. When that happens, you can bet your parents will be down for a movie night, game night, or spending even the smallest bit of time with you. Some may consider it uncool, but having parents who are down for any adventure with you is the absolute best.

2. They know you best.

Whether you want to admit it or not, your parents truly know you better than anyone. If you are in a mood, they notice. If you need someone to talk to, they can tell and are always there. Not only are they your biggest supporters, but they know exactly how to make you laugh, how to turn a bad day into a good one, and build you up when you feel torn down. They will take selfies with you to make you feel better or buy you your favorite ice cream when you're sad, simply because they want you to be happy and they know just how to do that.

3. They know WHAT is best for you. Every.Single.Time.

I know, I know. It's cliche to say, but mother/father really do know best. A mom can spot a fake friend before you can. A dad can spot a slimy boy before you're able to. I don't know if you know this, but they have known you for your entire life. So, listen to them, and I mean really listen because odds are they know their stuff and they really do want what's best for you, even if it doesn't seem like it to you at the time.

4. When something good happens, they're the first people you tell.

You got a good grade on a test or you found $20 in your pocket, odds are you've already texted them telling them of your good fortunes. And guess what? They will share the excitement with you as if it is them it happened to. What is better than that? Nothing. Not only do you text them when something good happens, but you basically text them anything that goes through your head throughout the day. Or maybe that's just me...

5. They're your biggest fans.

Every game, meet, competition, school concert, orientation, graduation...they wouldn't miss it for the world. They will always be there smiling enthusiastically in the crowd when you look up to find them. You can bet they'll proudly be wearing shirts with your name on it. They will hug you and tell you how great you were after every performance, game, and/or competition whether you win or lose, whether you play the entire game, or ride the bench. They will tell you they are so proud of you. It is times like these I hope you realize how truly lucky you are to have been blessed with parents like that.

They may get on your nerves, but having your parents as your best friends is quite honestly the best feeling one could imagine. They will always have your back, no matter what. It is true what they say, best friends are hard to find - I'm just lucky I get to call mine Mom and Dad.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
