Airports are a magical place where cultures of all sorts mingle, even for brief moments walking from the terminal to your uberX. Where else can you see citizens of all six inhabited continents in one place? Only the Olympics. Remember that next time you are carrying your overstuffed carry-on through security. People watching at the Indianapolis airport for three hours provided me with quite a few sights, and these are the shining lights of this snowy day.
1. A Lady With Bedazzled Acrylics
This woman sat near me by Starbucks and had acrylics nearly an inch and a half long. Each nail was equipped with red and gold gems of different sizes. How much does that weigh? How many minutes did each nail take to get bedazzled? How does she pick up her debit card from smooth surfaces? I will never know.
2. A Man Wearing Silver Dress Shoes
I saw this man walking to baggage claim and I was envious of him. It was a balmy 14-degree day, and the knee-length light blue puffy North Face he was wearing was everything I ever wanted in a jacket. Beneath it was a pair of black joggers, and that pretty much explains the extent of his comfort level. It was extreme. He completed this outfit with completely metallic silver dress shoes. I hope to see Donald Trump wearing a pair at his next debate.
3. A Little Boy and His Brother Holding Signs Saying “Daddy”
These two boys were with their mom, each holding white cardboard signs saying “Daddy” in the main terminal. My heart progressively melted in the 15 minutes they waited for him to arrive, but when the hugs hit I became a puddle. I do not know where their father came from or how long he was away. The excitement was palpable and reminded me how many families are reunited each day because of airports.
4. A Couple With Matching Red Jordans
#relationshipgoals am I right? This couple was walking by Lids, clearly in love. Santa Claus sent the elves to Foot Locker this year. I wonder if it is a daily routine for them? Do they wake up and say, “purple Crocs or Nikes Frees today, baby?” I can only hope to have that bond in 30 years.
5. A Little Kid Wearing R2D2 Boots
They lit up, they went up to his knees, and had R2D2 on the front of each boot. I have been on a Star Wars high since my Force was Awoken three weeks ago; I wish I had stopped to ask where he got them, because they looked waterproof and El Nino just keeps getting stronger.
