October has come and gone, and it's almost Oscar season. November usually gives us a good mix of Blockbuster and Indie, and 2016 is no exception! Here are my top 5 movies to watch out for this November.
5. Bleed For This November 18th
Bleed For This stars Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart, with Teller starring as real life boxer Vinny Pazienza, whose promising career is abruptly brought to a halt by a spinal injury. The film will chronicle his comeback efforts. This movie is exciting for me, because after seeing Whiplash, I'll go see anything for the time being starring Miles Teller. The guy has some serious acting chops. And who doesn't love a good boxing movie? I don't know if this will be the next Rocky, but it has strong potential to be a solid boxing flick.
4. Manchester by the Sea November 18th
Manchester by the Sea is an interesting entry, because due to its indie status, it will only receive a limited release, but the film premiered at this years "Sundance Film Festival" to rave reviews (currently sitting at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes). The film stars Casey Affleck and Coach Taylor aka Kyle Chandler, and centers around Affleck's character, who has been named the sole guardian of his nephew after his brothers unexpected death. From everything I've heard, Affleck will probably end up being nominated for Best Actor and the movie will likely get nominated for Best Picture, so it's easy to see why this movie could get you excited. It may not make a ton of money at the box office, but it has the potential to be one of the more memorable movies of 2016.
3. Hacksaw Ridge November 4th
Hacksaw Ridge is a war film starring Andrew Garfield, who stars as a pacifist who refuses to use a gun or any weapons while serving during WWII, who decides to go overseas to save lives instead of taking them. Most people may know Andrew Garfield for being Spider-Man or dating Emma Stone, but I know him as Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network. That movie was amazing, and he was personally very impressive in it, being completely snubbed for a Best Supporting Actor nomination in my opinion. The guy can do drama much better than people think, and the film currently sits at a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. With Mel Gibson directing, what appears to be early very solid reviews, and a talented leading man? This movie has "Oscars" written all over it.
2. Doctor Strange November 4th
Doctor Strange is the FOURTEENTH movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Obviously, they've got some sort of formula for success going. Despite Marvel's movies being about superheroes, this movie plans to be the most daring and different than all. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character, he plays a former doctor who finds salvation with a mysterious group of sorcerers. From everything I've seen in the trailers, this movie really looks like an acid trip on drugs, and you get a real Inception vibe. It looks like an absolutely ridiculous time, and has the potential to be the most different Marvel movie to date.
1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them November 18th
Harry Potter is back. Kind of. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them IS written by J.K. Rowling and does exist within the same universe as the original movies, but the film is set in 1920's America, so the chances of seeing "The Boy Who Lived" is slim. Nonetheless, as someone who has seen all of the Harry Potter Films multiple times and read all the books, I couldn't be more excited to see this movie come out. The movie stars Eddie Redmayne, who has won 2 Oscars, and it's written by J.K. Rowling, so there is definitely a lot of hope around this movie. Hopefully, unlike almost every blockbuster this year, it can live up to the hype!
