Janelle Monáe, Octavia Spencer, and Taraji P. Henson helping NASA and smashing the patriarchy. There is no better premise for a movie.

"Moonlight" is amazing. It tackles subjects like sexuality, addiction, socioeconomic status, and race, with an unmatched level of elegance and emotion.

Lion

Based on a true story, this film follows Saroo Brierley (Dev Patel), a man who was lost from his family at age five, and adopted into an Australian one. With the help of Google Earth, he goes on a mission to find his long lost family back in India.

Moana

Disney did their research, got help from real Pacific Islanders, cast diverse actors, and made an incredible movie. It's a beautiful, culturally appropriate movie with a realistic female lead and an excellent soundtrack.
