If you're like me, you grew up watching "Friends." Of course, at the time, I was unaware of all ot the sexual innuendos and I do recall my parents sometimes changing the channel due to the adult jokes. I also do remember watching the very last episode as it aired on television, not really understanding how sad that episode actually was (I was five at the time, I wasn't able to appreciate the show). Now that I am older and "Friends" is on Netflix, I am able to watch the show, laugh at all of the sexual innuendos, and fall so in love with the characters that the final episode now makes me cry. If you are anything like me, then you will know these five moments from "Friends" that are unforgettable.
1. Unagi
"I studied karate for a long time and there's a concept you should really be familiar with. It's what the Japanese call Unagi. Unagi is a state of total awareness."
Unfortunately for Ross, "unagi" has nothing to do with self defense. Unagi is actually the Japanese word for freshwater eel, and it is commonly used in Japanese cooking.
2. Pivot
As a college student, I have found myself quoting this famous line while moving from dorm to dorm. While I haven't had to move a couch up New York City apartment stairs, I have found myself in similar difficult moving situations (such as trying to carry a seven foot tall bookshelf up three flights of stairs). Even when I'm not moving anything at all, I still find myself yelling "pivot" at the top of my lungs.
P.S. if you haven't, binge watch "Friends" bloopers on YouTube (aka what I do in my spare time). The blooper reel for this scene is hilarious.
3. Seven
As a child, this scene would have been the one to make my parents change the entire channel. As innocent as repeating the number "seven" over and over again may have sounded to my five-year old self, as a college student I cringe just thinking about watching this scene with my parents (even at the age I am now).
4. Mississippi-ly
I won't lie to you, whenever I visit a scary tan salon (which isn't very often) this scene is the first thing that comes to mind. It honestly makes me a little paranoid, and I am grateful that spray tan machines today tell you when to turn around and how to stand.
Let's all be honest with ourselves for a second. We have all witnessed, at least once or twice, a person with a spray tan that looked like Ross's.
5. Smelly Cat
Here I leave you with this unforgettable scene, one that in my opinion doesn't need any narration.
Some of you may agree, the show "Friends" in general is pretty unforgettable. This show made the cast as famous as they are today, and shaped everyone's view on television sitcoms. What scene from "Friends" is your favorite?
