We are only into the second month of 2016 and there are already some pretty hilarious internet memes that have shown to be popular on various forms of social media. Here are the top five so far this year.

1. Traitor Trooper

To start the list off is a meme that rapidly blew out of proportion the day after the most recent "Star Wars" installment was released. Not to spoil anything, but many fans found the way that a particular stormtrooper in one battle scene acted out his lines to be dramatic and corny. The Internet's response was absolutely brilliant.

2. Squidward "Dab"

Recall one of everyone's favorite childhood cartoon characters, Squidward Tentacles. Most people know him to be the cynical cephalopod who works as the cashier for the Crusty Crab. The last thing that anyone would expect to see would be the sea creature taking part in the current trend known as "dabbing." This seemed to be the case, however, when a vine of a parade happened to catch that very act. Of course, it has quickly become wildly popular.

3. Persian Cat

Most people are probably not aware of the name of this meme and many people may not have even stumbled upon it yet. I assure you that it is hilarious. The story behind this meme is that some internet browser stumbled upon an art piece by Anya Boz entitled "Persian Cat Room Protector." While this is an incredibly odd name, the person who saw the piece realized that the sculpture is an exact replica of how many of us often feel when we are just caught in a ridiculous and unnecessary situation.

4. Fine Bros React To The World

In case you have never heard of them, The Fine Brothers are a youtube channel that makes what they call "Reaction" videos. Even if you do not know their name, you have probably, at one time or another, seen one of their videos due to their large fan base. Early in the year, the channel attempted to have the concept of reaction based videos copyrighted. Many people thought that this was a ridiculous attempt and you could say that the internet "reacted" brilliantly in the form of memes.

5. Bernie vs. Clinton

In case this has somehow flown over your head, 2016 is a presidential election year. Most of the country has been distracted by the antics of Donald Trump, but, as primary elections loom closer, the Bernie Sanders vs. Hillary Clinton rivalry has heated up significantly. In a tongue and cheek effort to make fun of campaign ads, the internet has started to create absolutely comical candidate comparisons regarding made up issues.
