Even though I’m only a couple of weeks into the school year, I’m already trying to cut out as many unnecessary steps in my morning routine as possible just so I can try to get more sleep. I’m sure you’re doing the same. Just because we’re sacrificing some pamper time for that extra slap of the snooze button doesn't mean we have to show up to class looking completely haggard. Here are some makeup hacks that will help you achieve makeup greatness with half the money and half the time.
1. Setting powder is your new best friend.
Walking to the class in the Colorado heat can be troublesome for all of those creams and concealers. The best trick to lock in that makeup is a translucent powder. Translucent powders prevent our natural oils from rising to the surface, but due to their light-weight, colorless nature, they won’t make your skin appear “cakey.” Extra tip: throw some translucent powder over your favorite lip gloss or lipstick to create the effect of a liquid matte lipstick without the extra cost.
2. Hairspray isn't just for your hair.
At this point, I’m sure everyone knows the term “brows on fleek”. Well, brows on fleek has now become brows on a budget for all of the college ladies. Truth is, you can achieve a groomed brow with a product you most likely have: hairspray. Instead of purchasing eyebrow gel, simply apply some hairspray onto a Q tip or an old mascara wand. It works wonders!
3. One word: moisturizer.
Ladies, if I could only give you one tip today, it would be to moisturize your skin. Although it doesn't provide any extra coverage, it will make your skin look healthier than ever to the point where you may not need to apply foundation. Even if you have oily skin, do not skip that face cream in the morning or at night. Along with its nourishing properties, moisturizer provides a boundary between your skin and makeup, reducing the number of clogged pores. If you apply a good moisturizer, it can act just like a makeup primer. Skipping those extra steps is what we’re aiming for here!
4. Eye shadow no more!
Eye shadow is extremely overrated. The truth is you can create a stunning eye look with your face products. Instead of primer, use your concealer and set with the translucent powder we mentioned earlier. For that defined crease, pop some of your bronzer in your eye socket and blend. The natural brown tones present in bronzers create the appearance of a natural shadow and make light eye colors stand out. For a lid shade, throw on some highlighter. The light reflective properties will make you look like you got more sleep than you really did. Throw on some mascara, and you’re good to go!
5. Don't forget to diet.
Last but certainly not least, monitor your diet. Greasy food will increase oil production and give your skin a shiny, oily texture. Increased oil production can also lead to multiple breakouts. Next, drink as much water as you can! Water hydrates the skin and provides a plumping effect. Hydration will reduce the appearance of dark circles because the kidneys directly affect the under eye area. We’re tired enough, we don’t need black under eyes to prove it.
