It's safe to say that most of us grew up watching Disney movies. Whether it may be Cinderella, Pinocchio or even 101 dalmatians, Disney movies have subconsciously played a role in shaping us into the people we stand to be today -- at least, that is the case for me. Here are the top five life-lessons that I learnt from some of my favorite Disney movies:
1. Cinderella -- The Essence of Punctuality:
Despite meeting the ever-so-handsome Prince Charming, Cinderella makes it a point to return home before the clock strikes twelve. Though life may not be a fairytale and you may not be Cinderella, punctuality plays a huge role in leading one to success. Besides, being punctual keeps you on the good side of professors, so why not, right?
2. Pinocchio -- Honesty is the Key to Success:
Lies continue to grow, and grow till they get to the point where you can't turn back. Whether it may be in the case of procrastinating and not submitting your work on time or getting into a sticky situation with a peer, honesty is the path to take. Being honest not only helps you avoid awkward situations, but also leads you on the right track to success. Let's be real, people make mistakes. And the best way to move on, forgive and forget is to be honest and own up to your mistakes!
3. Pocahontas -- Stay True to Yourself:
Peer pressure does not end in high school. And to be frank, it doesn't end in college either. No matter where you go, or what you do, people will try to pressure you into doing things that you normally wouldn't do. It's important to remember that regardless of the situation, you need to stay true to yourself. The only thing that anyone really owns is their dignity, and once that is lost, what is left to own? Remember, you do not have to change yourself to please others. And if you ever feel that way, it is not your personality that you need to change, but the type of people you surround yourself with.
4. Finding Nemo -- Never Give Up:
Life is not as easy as we perceive it to be. Actually, who am I kidding? Life isn't easy at all (neither is college). But that does not mean it is impossible. When you really want something to happen, no matter how hard it may seem, you CANNOT give up, because you have the potential to strive for greatness! Eventually, with handwork and perseverance, you will be able to attain your goals, just as Nemo was able to attain the sanctuary of his father.
5. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh -- The Essence of Friendship:
And, finally, the most precious lesson of all -- friendship, and for that matter, love, is the key to happiness. College isn't just about gooding grades and building a future for yourself. It's also about building life-long friendships, similar to that of Piglet & Pooh!
